This vehicle will not work for me since the wife wants sunroof and leather, but I thought someone here may be interested. In my quest to find an LR3 with the Heavy Duty Package (locking rear diff + full-size spare and alloy) I found out about it. I don't know exactly which dealer has it, but it's in California. It should come up on any search done by your dealer.

The vehicle is:

2006 LR3 V6
no options except:
-7 passenger
-Heavy Duty Package

It still has the air suspension + dial-in traction control system(s).

This means no sunroofs, Duragrain instead of leather, rear diff lock, and some steep discounts. I think the MRSP on it should be around $41,900, then subtract at least $9000 (possibly $10K) in discounts for a sale price of about $32K.

I know this type of vehicle is not everyone's cup of tea here, but if there ever was a bargain (and I'm using that term loosely) LR3 to use/build for wheeling, this would be it. If you want it, better grab it. The nation-wide dealer search only showed two 2006 models left with the rear diff lock.

there are plenty of 06s left.. with and without lockers. they just arent still "new", so they dont show up on the locate. they are loaners or demos.. the duragrain HD pkg truck isnt really rare. its defintely a cool setup though..

It is somewhat of a quandry, however, as the used '05's-'06's don't have the LRNA support ($6K marketing & $1.5K certificate). I was initially interested in a used V8 '05 with 28K, but could not get the dealer (screaming involved) to go below $35.5K-ridiculous. This is in NorCal, which is a "unique" market. That particular LR3 is now listing for $33.5K, but has been on there lot since at least early November.

if loaners were untitled.. i.e. they ran on dealer tags, they will still be eligible for support money. if they have been titled, then theyre out..

Unique market? In what sense? Which dealer R you refering? Most of them used car salesmen are little dense, my 2 cts.

I prefer that scaled down set up.

The problem (for me) in replacing a 02' SD Disco, is that most LR3 are way over equipped for my use.

I was mainly referring to Marin Land Rover (Green '05), though I had similar experiences at BMC (Gold '05). When I was negotiating with Marin on a new one, they were considerably higher than other Bay Area Dealers, despite my being on a first name basis with the sales staff. I witnessed first hand a monied Marinite come in and write a check at MSRP for an '06 in January 2007. I was in the dealership trying to get it at $9.5K off MSRP at the time. It was at that point that I thanked the smiling sales staff for their time and started negotiating with several dealers over the internet. Ended-up leasing from BMC.

I have many neighbors/acquaintances who have LR3's, and when I enquired on what type of deal they got they usually respond that they paid MSRP or the dealer knocked off a grand or so because they were loyal customers. They also acted slightily aghast that I would even ask. I married in to Marin.

Try the Fremont LR dealer, they seem like the most motivated guys to move cars.
BMC was alright, still I think my salesman is dumb. Am considering trading in the Disco for RRS or LR3 in the next few months, trying to see if I can get on the Ford Family pricing. Penny saved is a penny earned...:victory:
