"VIENNA, Austria -- Iran threatened the United States with "harm and pain" Wednesday for its role in hauling Tehran before the U.N. Security Council over its nuclear program.

But the United States and its European allies said Iran's nuclear intransigence left the world no choice but to seek Security Council action. The council could impose economic and political sanctions on Iran.

The statements were delivered to the 35-member board of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is meeting to focus on Tehran's refusal to freeze uranium enrichment.

The White House dismissed the rhetoric out of Tehran."

That very last sentence I posted I think bothers me the most.. "The White House dismissed the rhetoric out of Tehran".. I personally don't think that we should dismiss the rhetoric out of Tehran when they are enriching uranium and then threatening other countries with "pain and harm"..

Asked whether Iran would use an "oil weapon" as the world's fourth largest crude oil exporter, Javad Vaeedi, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, told Reuters: "We will not (do so now), but if the situation changes, we will have to review our oil policies."

Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, had said on Sunday that Tehran was not keen to use oil as a weapon in its escalating row with the West "but if conditions change it could affect our decision."

yep, i call that "harm and pain."

Why do we have to get involved in everything? Our hands are full with Hurricane relief, Afghanistan and Iraq? It would be nice if the EU could stand up or if Israel could do a little night raid.......

glad i just purchased a cooper...

Yeah, I hear that. I am glad I bought the RX-8 as a daily driver; but I am starting to get the leaky / electrical fault fever again.

Don't mistake what the press secretary says to the press for behind the scenes strategy. Also take into account the culture and business protocol of who we are dealing with. Iranian business protocol is described as "When negotiating, Iranians will start at extremes in order to gage your response".

If you go back and look at what Rumsfeld has said in the past it's along the lines of Hey Europe, I thought you were dealing with Iran?! That's not to say the State Department is ignoring Iran but to goat Europe into taking responsibility and participating in the solution as reported today - U.N. urged to act on Iran

VIENNA, Austria (CNN) -- The United States and Europe have called on the U.N. Security Council to act on Iran's atomic program at a meeting of the world body's nuclear watchdog . . . .

This referral has come about through the back channels, the behind the scenes strategy.

What's not behind the scenes is Iran's attempt to create a civil war in Iraq through the deployment of special forces (al-Quds) into Iraq. There is an excellent perspective on the 'Insurgency' in Iraq at The Belmont Club and how it's roots are the anarchy of the region. One aspect of addressing the Iranian issue is how Western civilization deals with the regional anarchy.

A place like many others

And for a good perspective on the psycho-ops war that the LSM is mindlessly enabling, read the final paragraph of Center of Gravity
