I recall a place down near Virginia Beach that had Marine isolator for a good price.....half of what DAP is sell for......that did the same thing. but, I can remember the name. Can someone help me out?

There is a guy in the BRLRC that has one. He drives a RRC with two blue tops. Can't think of his fucking name, though.

NORMAR!!!! Whats his fucking name?

Yea I don't need all the bling I just have my spare battery wired so I can flip it on if my main battery is dead I am just concerned if it sits for months and it is dead also. So I just want it hooked to the alternator and then just have it for starting the truck only

why mount such a rarely used item up in your face like that. seems like something good to tuck under the dash.

does the tjm kit allow both batteries to be used at the same time?

some one please link me.

That TJM unit is bigger than my than my windsheild. There is a smaller unit out there that reads volts, amps pulled, battery temp, and some other bullshit. Not that I really care about any of that.....I just want to switch to my other battery without jumper cables.

It's actually not as obstrusive as it seems... but I still will probably end up relocating it somewhere better...

It isolates when the truck is off, it starts only on the starter battery, once started it runs in parallel and charges both. There is a button the manually link them when the truck is off (say if you need more power for something, or if you need to jump yourself).

Oh yeah, that would be Larry Michelon. Very nice dual batt set-up.

Damn, all these nice fancy battery controllers I think that I'm going to have to re-think my isolator purchase..

Think I'll just wire up two yellow tops without the isolator and not worry about it.. :)

It looks really big in that picture, but it's not too bad- the customer didn't have sunroofs so he wanted the monitor overhead (typical thing with pilots).
The Xantrex stuff is really really large from the ones Ive seen at Marine stores. I've looked everywhere for a simple voltmeter with two or more displays that wasn't huge. If you want a simple solution- get a winch solenoid, some wire and a toggle switch. Instant isolator- rig it to connect when the ignition is on and you'll start from and charge both batteries... then isolate when not running.
The TJM allows dissimilar batteries- you can run a deep cycle spare and a standard primary.

so you are always using the combined strength of the two batteries?

i'd like to have two batteries. one deep, one normal. normal one is for starting the other accessories are tapped into. this way if i leave all accessories on i can still use the untouched starter batteriy to get home.

but if things get despareate i would like to be able to flick a switch and have both batteries working together.

When the truck is off, the batteries are isolated, so your accessories are only drawing off of the accessory battery... so say if you leave lights, or a fridge on while the truck is off, and run down that battery, when you start it, it'll start off the good starter battery, then start charging both batteries. When the truck is on, you have the power of both batteries.

I do think it's the best available solution, but as I said before, it's expensive compared to home-brewed alternatives... I just spoiled myself with it.

Well as steve said, it's the cost, and time and effort of getting 3 volt meters (each battery and charging) and then setting it up.. i have no doubt that a better solution could be devised within a day or so.. but for out of the box, the IBS was the nicest available.

I don't have the room for three regular voltmeters... so that's the way I went. Simplified it a lot- I just don't see how some places get $300 for a solenoid with a three way switch and an LED. At least the IBS has a processor and a useful display.
The minimum advertised price allowed is on the site- but it's significantly cheaper. I'm not opposed to group buy discounts either- and a donation to DWeb as part of it.
