Hey guys,
I recently realized that the turning radius sucks on my 03 disco hse7. Of course they arent made to make uturns as easily as a miata----but on a 2 lane road, I cant even U turn without reversing----I didnt have this issue with my 00.

I know the vehicle was hit in the left side, front fender, replacing the fender and hood....

When I drive 60-70 there is a tiny slight vibration in the steering wheels, and it goes away once I reach speeds over 70 and under 60.

I can see that the wheels are not turning as far as they should be, almost like a tie rod is too short or something, it should be turning about 30 degrees more.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem or what it could be from???

Thanks in advance,

M

Also---how much am i looking to replace the oxygen sensors and emmision control sensors? thanks in advance

On my 95 D1 I readjusted the steering stops until the tires are within 1/4" of rubbing, this allowed for normal turning. This is a street only vehicle so the constant velocity joint isn't subjected to full lock clutch popping abuse a off road vehicle will see.
At 114K miles with no ill effects with a chip and cam in a 4.6 powered 5 speed D1.

For a O2 sensor check into autohausaz.com they have good prices with free shipping on items over $50 plug no tax. Also check Performance Peddler.com

Thanks beemer----I have an lr3 as well, and not a big fan of it, so far no issues or anything to worry about-----but its just not the same as my disco2, def feels like a down grade.

Ill check that, ill check that out and see if that could be the issue.

Any other ideas anyone?

Is the steering wheel straight or turned to one side? Are you getting uneven tire wear?
If the wheel is straight and you have no tire wear I would check to be sure the steering shock is not bent or full of mud/debris. If it has been hit it could also be installed incorrectly. If the shock is able to bottom out it will steer more to one side and less to the other.

Mine does something similar. I just upgraded to 265/75R16 tires and I can rub the tire on right turns but not on left turns. Steering wheel is straight and I have a OME steering damper. Definitely feels like it makes a tighter turn to the right but I haven't measured.

I haven't really put a lot of thought into it yet but I guess I would check out to see if it is hitting the steering stops which should have a worn area on them from hitting. If they aren't I guess I will take off the damper and see what that does.

I will check that thanks guys---I havent checked right turns to see if they are better, but left just flat out sucks------steering wheel is straight, and tire wear is normal---so I will check that and get back with an update, thanks for the help.

Yes. Its looks just like a shock and is mounted on the front link between the tie rods. Steering stops are located on the rear end housing just behind the brake rotor.

Here is a pic of my wheels COMPLETELY turned, thats as far is it goes either way---and picture of the linkage.

it doesnt appear bent at all, and as for the steering stops, I am unsure---

But if you notice on the left side, the knuckle isnt connected to the linkage, but is on the right, maybe its supposed to be like that tho? newb here, sorry.

00 vs 03 steering

I have a 2000 and a 2003 and have noticed the exact same thing on the 2003.

The 2000 wheel stops are ~3/4" - 7/8" inches tall. The 2003 wheel stops are ~1 1/4". Obviously, that doesn't seem like a lot, but it would be enough to limit the turn radius.

I am either going to trim mine down or replace them with older (shorter) versions.
