So I have had the check engine light on since I bought my 97 Disco. The first time I took it up to Indy and they did a load of stuff like reburn the ecu, had a couple bent pins on sensors, etc. They reset the light and halfways home it comes back on. Then I was get exhaust codes from it. I just replaced my cats and muffler and they told me when they cleared the codes they found 8 different ones. Check engine light came on again so now it appears Im having misfires on nearly every cylinder, well have been.
You guys have any idea what the problem would be?

After I pulled out of the shop today the truck ran like a million bucks but as soon as the check engine light came back on it went back to feeling doggish. Is this because the computer is changing the ratios to make up for the misfires?

What codes? Just misfire codes? What spark plugs are you running? (So help me if they're Bosch!)

How about new plugs and plug wires? How is the coil pack working? ECU reflashes dont do anything magical, so stop chasing your tail around on that issue. Its not changing ratios, if you are truely misfiring, the doggish feel you notice is just that, the engine misfiring and screwing up power output and so on.

Well the thing had a new engine put in at like 65k miles and the work wasnt done by a good shop, actually a good gas station shop. Thats why there was alot of piddly shit like them forgetting to bend pins over and whatnot. I didnt get the codes but the guy told me that he had misfire code for something like 6 out of 8 cylinders. Im just hoping its not a huge problem that was causing this. By the way I had to replace the muffler because the cat filling had filled it up. Maybe me riding it for so long with the ecu adjusting the mixtures so often screwed up something.

Find out what the OBDII codes are. That'll help in figuring it out. There are any number of issues that it could be and this will help narrow it down. Any autozone or the like can check them for free if you don't have a reader.

autozone can read the codes? Is this all location or only certain ones? Also, what are the chances of finding a place besides the dealer that can read the ABS light, I dont know if that requires testbook or not.

You can get codes with a paperclip on Series one Discovery.
