I’ starting to drive more for work and am looking to pick up a DD (if/when the used car market cools a bit). The newer Rovers don’t do it for me plus I need to get decent mpg. Anyone have experience with late model Jags, particularly the XF? Know there’s some crossover with the Rover family. V6 offers some decent power and the little diesel gets great mpg. I previously drove an XE as a loaner and, besides the size, enjoyed driving it. I’m probably overlooking something but the XF seems like an enjoyable option that would fit the bill

The XF is a pretty solid unit. The Fpace is the same platform as a Range Rover Velar. I personally like the Epace. It's the same platform as the Discovery sport. Not sure your going to be able to find a new diesel. the DEF has been a royal pain in my ass and they are going to stop selling diesels because of that. The inline 4 cylinder 2.0 inginium gas engine has been really solid. Outside of some water pumps and VCT solenoids it's been pretty trouble free. If you do decide to get the 4 cylinder diesel you need to do a lot of highway miles, the city driving causes the def fluid and converter issues. Also I'm seeing turbochargers take a serious shit on those. It fills the exhaust with oil and usually the car needs a new converter after that. I have one now that the turbo took a shit and the fucking thing hasn't been right since.

And I can hear Jeremy Clarkson saying it:
That’s part of the appeal isn’t it!?

Appreciate the input Stew. Sounds like, as with most modern diesels, a diesel XF isn’t for me. Too bad because I love the torque of a diesel around town. I’d like to try and find the SCV6 as opposed to the gas turbo 4. Any thoughts on how they hold up as far as interior and such?

The leather on the dash will shrink or something and the stitching will seperate around the center speaker and up close to the windshield. So take a good look at all that if you start looking at them. I've never been a fan of the 3.0 v6. I could never get past the bathtub plugs in the last 2 cylinders. It does make pretty good power for what it is I suppose. I should have mentioned that I'm starting to see t stats leak on the 2.0 petrol engine. It's kind of a bitch to replace. But I would still take that engine over the 3.0 or the 5.0. Just because I think it will cost less money to keep it going past 100.000 miles.
