Yeah his organs slowed, because the body was cutting off blood supply in order to keep the brain and heart functioning, just the dumbshit didn't die. Reminds me of the assholes that say they climbed everest, yet they were flown in.

Huh? You can't fly to Everest. Helicopters can barely even fly in to base camp, much less the higher camps. The air is too thin.

Keep in mind, I just watched a whole series of climbing Everest on the Discover channel, so I am a bona fide expert.

actually that is untrue, first off skyguy is a fuck, now back to science, In climbing altitude slowly your body goes through changes in order to adapt to the decrease of oxygen, this adaptation takes time. I said fly, I did not say helicopter, but there are high altitude helicopters that can get you part of the way up, not to the top though. ;)

Agreed, Skyguy is a fuck.

But the TV told me that if someone flew straight to the summit of Everest, got out and walked around, that person would die within 30 minutes. And the TV never lies. That's why they spend so long acclimatizing during the climb. They also said the closest that someone can be flown in is at the first base camp. Even if someone IS flown in there, climbing to the top of Everest is no small feat.

I still say that if someone is flown directly in, to a point HIGHER than base camp, and got out to walk around, that person would be subjected to a serious risk of injury. If it was possible, you would see rescues at that elevation. But you don't. They only fly you out at base camp. If you get stuck higher than that, you are S.O.L.

Where's Skyguy? I'm sure he could tell us.

high altitude heli? best thing we got is the bigass Chinook- it can do about 20,000 feet but can't land or take off normally at that height OR fight wind well at all.

well once again steve you know everything, were you a mailman in Boston during the 80s, with a fat friend named Norm?

30 minutes for a pic no problem, and come on supplemental oxygen, if you have the money to fly your shit up there I think you would have that.

Do you park this bigass chinook next to your tiny Faglander?

What do the neighbors think?

Seriously, you might just be the best "topper" I know.

I mean there is no topic that you don't not only know of, but you might have three or perhaps four of "said topic" lying around in your aircraft hanger of a garage.

Where do you keep your Rovers, racecars, now a chinook, a unicorn, and the last offspring of Nessie?

Just go one week on this board without "topping" someone. That's what many of us Dwebbers want for Christmas.

Can you top that, and perhaps roll this no topping policy into a New Year's Resolution for us?

PLEASE!

No. The whole team lives. They found a dying guy on the way down though, but its all kind of old news since it happened a while back.

This is true. But keep in mind Sherpas run up and down everest many times to get the white boys up once. Pretty f'ing amazing.

To be considered a real mountaineer you must do it without O2.

Everest (8,848m)
Today, Everest has hosted close to 2,000 successful summits. 179 people have perished giving a fatality rate of 9.3%.

Unfortunately the fatality rate in decreasing, used to be 20% and only 6 or so years ago 15.

Too bad, the trek up is going to be for anyone who can afford it soon. With advances in gear, 02 and dollars, more and more will make it and less will die, none of which will make it on their own.

Sad.

Thats all we need is a heli rescue up there....

$60k expedition to get up there. $60k to reserve the heli in case I fuck up.

No problem I'm in!!!!!! Give me a fucking break.

There are a TON of good reads about Everest. If you have not read Into Thin Air, start there.

Your stats don't take into account all those that attempt the climb but do not summit...but yeah, I agree with your point.

After reading Into Thin Air you must read The Climb by deWalt. Gives a different prespective on what happen in 97 on everest without the god like attitude of krakauer.
also this link is good too
http://classic.mountainzone.com/climbing/fischer/letters.html
different responses from people on the mountain responding to krakauers article in outside
take care
