I don't know. I never really was a huge Chappelle fan. I could take him or leave him, maby a chuckle here and there. Mencia is very funny to me, though.
I do see the similarity there, but it's only in the show production. Racially charged humor with some acting bits thrown in. They both handle them very differently. Quite a few comedians use the same material, they just don't have TV shows. If they did, I'm sure they would have some acting bits too.
TV comedy is all the same, but with different personality takes on the material. There isn't much difference besides presentation and personality. In the end, that's what makes it funny.
I've got my own style of comedy, which I throw into my verbal tales of adventure and life in general. I don't think it will ever get me a TV show, though.:bigok:
Of course, I read a lot of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, and I'm a big Python fan. Now, it's a natural assumption that I might have been inspired by their delivery methods, melded them with my own cynical realism and terminally optimistic outlook on my own survival, and somehow managed to make a joke out of it that is only partially funny, but manages to make you think about the nature of failure in a completely new way as you are dangling over the edge of a cliff from the horn of a rhino.
So I get a TV show, and some ding dong goes and posts a blog saying I'm a Pratchett rip off because I accidentally used a joke he did once, and my whole routine is similar.
I'm not saying I'm right, because I can't know that. I'm saying this smells like a publicity stunt from either party. It could even work out well for Mencia if he plays it right.
Cheers,
Kennith
