Apparently, Carlos Mencia has been stealing material for years and is hated amongst the comic community.

Also apparently, Joe Rogan is a stand up comic.

Anyway, follow this link if you want to see Mencia called out by Rogan and a few other comics while he was onstage. The video is a little ways down on the page. Joe Rogan's text explains how this situation came to a head and boiled over.

I saw Ned in Portland last fall, he ripped up the place [Jakes]. But man, F him if he's stealing material. I thank Rogan for having the balls to confront him on stage and end the BS.

Joe Rogan is not the best "stand-up" comedian, but is a very funny guy in general. I never have liked NED, aka Carlos for playing up his looks so people think he is a "BEANER"

NED SUCKS..... OH, AND SO DO KENNY CHESNEY, AND TOBY KEITH FWIW

There is no doubt in my mind that Toby Keith is the worst singer/performer on the face of the earth!

Seems like a stunt to me. It could work well for both parties. I still like Mencia, he is a total package, not one joke or another. Conceptual comedy can't be quantified in a single punchline. It has to be presented as a form, as Mencia does it. He is funny, but mainly because of the delivery, not the actual joke.

Nothing is proven to me either way, except the fact that Mencia was surrounded by people and riddled with accusations from a mob with an effective and charismatic leader. Mencia's isn't exactly a personality to rally behind, the mob was going to go the other way no matter what.

It all seems mighty shaky to me. Some internet videos pop up, and all these comedy connisseurs pop up like they know these guys. I haven't heard a thing about this beforehand, and be honest, neither have most of you.

His name is not important. He has made no secerets of his identity, and acting a part is a tool comedians have used for ages.

I'll take Mencia's side.

Cheers,

Kennith

Umm....no. He steals jokes and premises. His entire persona on the show is stolen. Large portions of his material is stolen. He filled a void left by Chapelle, that's it.

I don't know. I never really was a huge Chappelle fan. I could take him or leave him, maby a chuckle here and there. Mencia is very funny to me, though.

I do see the similarity there, but it's only in the show production. Racially charged humor with some acting bits thrown in. They both handle them very differently. Quite a few comedians use the same material, they just don't have TV shows. If they did, I'm sure they would have some acting bits too.

TV comedy is all the same, but with different personality takes on the material. There isn't much difference besides presentation and personality. In the end, that's what makes it funny.

I've got my own style of comedy, which I throw into my verbal tales of adventure and life in general. I don't think it will ever get me a TV show, though.:bigok:

Of course, I read a lot of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, and I'm a big Python fan. Now, it's a natural assumption that I might have been inspired by their delivery methods, melded them with my own cynical realism and terminally optimistic outlook on my own survival, and somehow managed to make a joke out of it that is only partially funny, but manages to make you think about the nature of failure in a completely new way as you are dangling over the edge of a cliff from the horn of a rhino.

So I get a TV show, and some ding dong goes and posts a blog saying I'm a Pratchett rip off because I accidentally used a joke he did once, and my whole routine is similar.

I'm not saying I'm right, because I can't know that. I'm saying this smells like a publicity stunt from either party. It could even work out well for Mencia if he plays it right.

Cheers,

Kennith

I'll side with Mencia as well, he is funny. In the video Joe Rogan does a better job at attacking him, and Carlos does a poor job at defending himself, I can not imagine EVERY single comedian having his/her unique jokes or bits. Of course that bits and jokes are going to be used by more than one comedian (either its creator or somebody else). And once one comedian gets enough exposure the others will try to take advantage and chime in to try to get some publicity.
Carlos rules, and according to the stereotypes, he IS a beaner, he never lied about his country of origin.

Mitch Hedburg was a genius, but Jim Gaffagan and Dane Cook also make me laugh. Mencia isn't that good though.

Yes! That's why I love my XM radio so much! Channel 154 has those three on all the time.
