Shhame you lot can't read Norwegian...
Was the computerized navigation made by Bill Gates?

Apparently it can't handle going from 179,9 deg west to 180deg east and crashes...

Lucky the pilots were being followed by tankers from hawaii to Japan...

JSF, but only in certain areas....

Listen to Mr. Norway here....it's the F-22, not the F-35 JSF. Secondly, all aircraft, no matter how expensive / stealthy / advanced has an avionics glitch from time to time. Thirdly, it did not crash, It diverted to Hawaii. Did you know there is a F-22 engineer on this BBS?

Nav glitch or not, the F-22 will sneak up and kill you, before you even know it's there. That includes any of your 57 F-16 fighter jets, 12 Sea King rescue helicopters, 6 P-3 Orion maritime surveillance planes, 6 Hercules cargo planes, 6 Lynx helicopters, 18 Bell helicopters, and 15 Saab Safari training planes.

Have a nice day. :patriot:

Lockheed's F-22 Raptor Gets Zapped by International Date Line
DailyTech LLC ^ | February 26, 2007 | Brandon Hill

Lockheed’s F-22 Raptor is the most advanced fighter in the world with its stealth capabilities, advanced radar, state of the art weapons systems and ultra-efficient turbofans which allow the F-22 to "supercruise" at supersonic speeds without an afterburner. The Raptor has gone up against the best that the US Air Force and Navy has to offer taking out F-15s, F-16s and F/A-18 Super Hornets during simulated war games in Alaska. The Raptor-led "Blue Air" team was able to rack up an impressive 241-to-2 kill ratio during the exercise against the "Red Air" threat -- the two kills on the blue team were from the 30-year old F-15 teammates and not the new Raptors. . . . .

A statement in Mark's article is dead-on:

It was a computer glitch in the millions of lines of code, somebody made an error in a couple lines of the code and everything goes."

In reference to this statement:

the two kills on the blue team were from the 30-year old F-15 teammates and not the new Raptors. . . . .

We are still building new F-15's today. Her design may be old, but she can still be good warfighter.

you'd be surprised how many mistakes are done while working in polar coordinates.
I deal with issues like this very often. A frequent slip-up is the software in one part of the system using 0-360 degrees convention, and another - -180 to 180. One part of the software gets updated, while another stays the same, and BANG...

Quentin,

it's a question of whether it is appropriate for _you_ to mock the U.S. military (or defense contractors that equip it). Keep in mind that it was Lockheed that designed and built these aircraft; and I doubt Lockheed used Norsk Data mainframes to design them. It may not be such, but it may feel like a cheap shot.

It is humorous to me that the same mistakes are being made on grossly different scales of cost, but only because I came across quite a few.

What has Norway, me living in Norway, or Norway in general go to do with this??
Why can?t I mock the US, it?s military, or what ever else I feel like... its a free speaking forum
isn?t it?
If it bugs you so much don?t reply.

I don?t give a f##k about Lockheed, JSF, US military or anything else you high strung
weirdo?s seem to get so upset about.

I simply thought it was amusing that he newest, most advanced, most expensive
miitary fighter aircraft?s navigation system CRASHES (not the planes you dumb pillock)^ and forces the pilots to fly blind, and be guided in by their escorting tanker.

Well if you lot want to read a ton of shit between the lines that isn?t there then go ahead and amuse me even more with your drivell about how great the US allegedly is.

Quentin, you've posted enough in general section in the past for the other people to react in the way they did. Steve's quote above is a good sample of your writing.
By the way, yes, it is the U.S. that made satellite navigation possible - not only for its own military, but for the rest of the world as well.

Your knowledge of the world outside the US is truly amazing....
If only you knew how true that statement was.

And just incase you didn't know (which you obviously don't) Norway is the worlds 3rd largest exporter of oil and gas. So come and get it...

Interesting. I had no idea. I thought Norway was not a member of OPEC and that your North Sea capacities have past their peak. Looks like you'll need to start exploring / drilling in the Barents Sea to avoid becoming energy dependent, or having your economy fall flat, which ironically is based on your offshore oil and gas sectors.....

But please don't be bitter, in fact you should be happy to live in such a beautiful and peaceful country; which has low crime and a stable democracy. Someday, I hope to visit Norway with my camera.

Have a great day.
