I read that the LR3 will be more expensive than the current D2, there will be a price gap between the LR3 and Freelander. Will a future Defender fill that price gap?

Defender price

I was told that the "future defender" would be priced along the lines of an H2.

So I guess that would be mid 50K

This could be total crap...

But LR is good at increasing the prices dramatically with new models!

Freelander will be moving upmarket to take the spot of the current Disco pricnig...

Last I heard Defender should be priced similarly. We'll see!

You can price one out at http://www.landroverusa.com/us/en/Vehicles/LR3/Overview.htm

A base HSE+Cold Climate Package+Heavy Duty Package(rear locker)+Tow Package was $52,170! Granted this truck has more stuff than my 98' LSE but $15K more is a bit much.

Hmmm, it price similar to Lexus GX470, Hummer H2, BMW X5, and Caddy SRX. Personally, it will be a tough choice between GX and LR3. I was just looking at the stats for the LR3...did you know that it weighs in at about 5500 lbs?!! That's about 700 lbs more than Disco SII or GX470! It actually weighs slightly more than Range Rover. Wow.

While approach & departure angles may look impressive, what kind of break-over angle will you get w/a 113" wheelbase? Looks like just enough to high center. And while Jags quality may have gotten better w/ford @ the helm, would someone please explain Jag's slumping sales? Just as ford plannd, I'm sure. Thank You, LRW.

The breakover angle of the LR3 is very similar to the current Disco II.

The LR3 was not designed for us, the offroaders. Why? How much of the market are we? A very small percentage. Except for us few, the days of traveling across the desert to explore and "map" new areas are long gone. The need for a LR that you can fix in the middle of the Sahara is not there. Ford needs to boost sales, period. It's a good line, a good heritage, but it doesn't make financial sense to keep doing things the same way. If that were the case, LR would have had to shut it's doors long ago. I'm actually amazed at what it could do. I'll wait and see. Unfortunately, with that price, and our first child on the way, I'll be driving my Disco II for quite a while longer. As for kit, it may take a while, but those engineers out there in the custom Rover shops will come up with the right brackets, mounts, etc. for things like bumpers, winches, lifts, etc. I'll be there already getting the specs and working on it as we write.

LR3 was designed to sell, and still be able to back up the claim as the Best 4X4XFAR, knowing all too well that only 1% will make it off the pavement. As for Ford ownership, there's got to be a least 50% of an explorer that we can all accept. So they borrow the navigation system, does that mean the navigation system is bad because they use the same one in an explorer?

The next year or so should prove real interesting.
