I have a service customer who dropped their defender off today and said they would not be opposed to letting it go.
It's a 97 #2025 soft top yellow with full and bimini roof. has bench and jump seats. bench is currently out of the car ac tape with 6 disc changer. Car shows well has a bad carfax with frame damage reported in 03 vin number is saldv224xva119800
It also has an odometer discrepency according to the carfax. It looks like someone just typed in the wrong mileage when it came in for an inspection one time. If you want more information or might be interested shoot me an email and I can get you pictures and tell you more about the car. Here's just a few to wet your whistle.

I'm pretty sure low thirties is the number she thinks but I dont know if she knows about the frame damage on the car fax. we got up under the car and couldn't tell there had been any work to the frame or anywhere else for the most part. Make me a real money offer and if your serious feel free to call me, I'm in the process now of trying to get the history on the accident.

Replaced the spare tire mount. It also has an odometer discrepency but from looking at the car fax the mileage goes like this
1-17-05 27,021
10-11-05 36,000
11-17-06 32,047
Obviously an inspection station got too lazy to check the actual mileage and it didn't work out in their favor. I spoke with Jim Rumsfeld at the charlotte dealership and he had a tremendous amount of history on the car and can get all reciepts from the body shop. I'm not defending her price but I am giving you my word this is the cleanest defender I have had come through this dealership ever. The vehicle has a small seap around the valve cover gaskets but its not leaving puddles yet.

ECR is buying rovers now. Might be an option. I doubt they are going to pay top dollar though.

That Carfax is going to kill her ask price though...

fixed it.

She might get it, but I'm seeing an awful lot of clean Defenders selling cheap. A client of mine just sold his with only 12K miles on it, original owner from new, perfectly maintained, etc. He only got $30k for it.

With the glut of 110s coming in right now and 90s next year, NAS defenders are gonna finally be selling for what they're really worth.

The frame damage and dirty carfax will make them run away I would bet.

....naaaa, those 84-85's are junk. It will be 2012-2013 before we see decent prices on the 90's...

But when they drop, they're going to hit the floor.

Exactly... As long as people keep asking 15-30k for rusted out crap from the UK the NAS trucks will continue to stay strong.

I think Dan has it about right. Its kind of like when the 101's first became legal to bring in. The first year they were selling for 18k. Now the price has normalized. The NAS D-90's are dropping in price but it isn't due to competition from imports IMO. They are are really just clapped out, rusty, and get lousy gas mileage. There alwasy seem to be enough NAS 90's around for those who want them. That keeps the prices just below the stratosphere. The 110's is where the biggest drop in value is going to occur. And FWIW the $12k 25 year old 110's I've seen have all been better than the worst NAS Defenders that I've seen. NAS parts car d90s with clear title have sold for over 10k. The last one I saw was in NH and the guy was asking 12 but I don't think it sold.

I guess the ultimate tipping point for the US defender market will be when you can bring in ones that are newer than the last ones sold here. What's that, 2022? Shit I'll be in my 50's...
