ok got a new question I have read alout of the past treads about axles and upgrades I just want a clear and strait answer im creating enough lift to clear 36X13.50 might do 38 in the future I just need an axle that will not brake! under heavy off road use they will be locked. I know nothing is bullet proof not prone to braking often at all. I have a 1990 rrc with 10spline no lockers stock.

Between Rovertracks and Great Basin Rovers, you will be able to able to get all the suspension, driveline, gearing and lockers for the job. I hope you have deep pockets...Good luck and post some pics when you get the monster done!

on the subject of axles and the like, i have a question. on my p38 i have stock axels and gearing. i am lifting it 2" and will be running nothing bigger than a 285/85/18. i want to be able to do some moderate off roading. will i need stronger axles and gearing? would a locker help? thanks, dont mean to high jack the thread.

I would re-gear and axle upgrade on 285s with lockers. I did on a disco. With a 2" I would go 235/85 or 265/75s. If you lock it uppgrade axles;)

Yoou are going to need to swap stub axles and hubs as well.

andrew, or anyone else, what would you suggest then? i will more than likely run a 265/65/18, which is the exact equivalent of a 265/75/16. also, i will be doing mederate off roading, nothing too serious. however, i know i will push it harder than i should.

For anyone going to 38's I would certainly look at portals and run some 32's with a moderate lift.

If you start to add up all the costs, axles, gearing, stubs, flanges, panhard, swivels, new props, trailing arms etc etc.. the portal conversion can be a better bang for the buck and talk about some serious clearance :)

Just a thought, seems like everyone is looking at what everyone else is doing and not really trying to figure out the problem
