Hey, Does anyone know the location of the relay for the interlock solenoid for the ignition switch? My key is stuck, still works but won't come out of the ignition after switched off. It's also causing my battery to drain. When I disconnect the battery the key releases fine. Any suggestions appreciated. My rover is a 94rrc lwb.

Thanks

"If you do a search youll find alot of solutions, below are some that I found. When mine started to do this I used graphite for a while when that didnt work anymore I took it to a lock smith who repaired it.

"Make sure it is in park. It helps if you jiggle the key really fast,(not forcefully) the teeth in the lock get stuck. Try graphite powder Also buy a new used ignition. Put it in and use allen bolts instead of the shear bolts. Keep the old one in the boot just in case. That way if your ignition gets messed up just pop off the cover, unscrew the bottom part, unplug like 3 connectors, unscrew 2 screws holding on the switch, unbolt the ignition, and put in the new one. It'll take probably 5-10 minutes. Mine did this and it ended up being the shift linkage on the tranny was off by a hair and the XYZ unit was not reading it being in park. Remove steering wheel interlock take the bottom of the steering column off and just removed the lock that is under the ignition switch. key will never get stuck, it is the cheepest way to fix it ."

Thanks for the help guys, I will try the wiggle shake method, if that does not work, I will remove the interlock.

The ticket is to remove the relay. I know where it is on my 95, Sven told me where to look. Pm him and he may know the location on a 94. If you find out, share it with us. Good luck!

I had this problem years ago on my 1995 Range Rover Classic SWB (air bag dash like a Discovery). I could not get the key out of the ignition switch, and I could not get the Electronic Air Suspension to lower to the "access" position.

I was in Scottsdale, Arizona for a wedding when this happened. The Land Rover dealership disconnected the 2 pin connector on the solenoid so I could get out the key. They thought the problem might be in the transmission console and told me that it would need to be trouble shooted (bring lots of money - $500.00 plus).

When I got back home, I checked the wiring in the console against the wiring diagram, but nothing wrong was found. I then talked with Eddie Bostock, of West Coast Rovers, and he told me that directly behind the glove box there are green and yellow relays (I forget which color relay controls the ignition switch interlock). One of the relays gets a signal from the transmission lever being in the "park" position, so the solenoid on the ignition switch interlock will release the key, whether it is a Range Rover or a Discovery. You just empty the glove box and flip the levers to drop the glove box down to get at the relays. He told me to swap out one green relay with another and try to remove the key, then do the same with the yellow relays till the key comes out. Then go purchase a new relay of the same color to replace the defective one. A new relay was about $25.00 at the dealership, and less at other suppliers.

Hope this helps.
