It's in the kidney, but keeps blocking the ureter. Since my health is so top notch to start with, I'm used to being in pain & have a much higher tolerance for pain than most, but this is even more than I can cope with and hold down work at the same time. My stone isn't a candidate for any of the wave/zapping therapies, unfortunately. I already have a team of specialists I see regularly for my chronic conditions, so it's not like I've blown this off or just gotten one opinion. Having another surgery is not a pleasant option for me, since I don't heal and tend to develop complications. I've been trying to deal with the pain & hope the stone goes away on its own.

Oh Alyssa! So sorry for you! My last stone (3 weeks ago) was similar to this and ended up having surgery to get it out. It does suck and I like you don't heal well, but I have had the surgery a few times before and it's sad to say that you get "used" to it. I hope that yours goes on its own.

When I had my stone a few years back the Urologist acted as if I was putting her out and asked me if I knew how they retreived them. I told her I didn't care if she used a chainsaw! Anyway she put me under and went after it with basically mechanical fingers. When I came to I felt like a new man.

She later told me to drink a lot and I told my wife I needed more beer and the doctor said that beer was a good ideal so I now have an excuse as to why I drink.

Oh, and another thing. I now drink enough water everyday that I have to pee at least once an hour. Everyone can't believe that I have to pee so much BUT I want to make sure that I keep it flowing thru me so I never have to deal with another stone (unless it's a Keystone Light).

I've had a couple of kidney stones. One right after I had shoulder surgery. I drink a gallon of water or more a day and usually try and drink a couple of fruit drinks with citric acid. Havent had a problem since.
