I was getting a knock sensor code on bank 1. I replaced the knock sensor and it went away for a couple of weeks but is back now. The wiring from what I can see looks ok. Anyone have any thoughts on what it could be. The engine is running smooth so not sure what could be causing it. I am running premium fuel. I have not pulled the plugs but they were replaced about 20000 miles ago.

what year and engine do you have?

i have 2004 4.6 that has always has a knock sensor code but never throws the check engine light. it runs just fine and i and my mechanics have never been able to figure out the issue.

You need to actually test the wiring to and from the ecm and knock sensor. You also need to check the ecm to make sure is not corroded, if it is, that needs to be tested as well. The ecm in your D1 likes to collect water. If all that checks out then you've got a mechanical issue somewhere. A vibration from something or and actual combustion problem like timing or over fueling.

From what I’ve read about knock sensors is that the sensors are fragile and the wiring to the sensor is problematic as well. Maybe check the power and ground wire or wires to sensor.

Drum roll..

It's probably the new cheap aftermarket sensor you replaced went bad already.

I'm less and less impressed with aftermarket sheet the more I get on this Rover.

My vehicle is a 2004 SE with 4.6 L engine.
i replaced my knock sensor with a new one, erased the code, and drove. code came back, but i don't know when since it never threw the check engine light.

still have the code but issues driving and get 12 to 12.5 mpg around town with a steel front winch bumper, winch, steel rear bumper, and 32" tires. so, i don't think the knock sensor is affecting fuel mileage.

It's pretty easy to damage the harness on the drivers side if you've ever removed the ac bracket. It can get in between the bracket when tighten the bracket back down and get squished.
