anyone tackled the ticking issue with this yet? just wondering if there may be a shortcut to access it without having to rip the whole dash apart.

what ticking?

we used to replace the ECM box cooling fan/motors all the time. it is up in the right front of the engine bay in the ECM box.

or the squeek when the fresh/recirc blend door closes and opens?

what year is it?......ive done a few bmw rangie blend motors and you can get to all of them pretty easy not much has to come apart.......06 and newer not to sure cant be too much different until 2010.........as far as the e-box fan ive done a bunch of those too for noise and parasitic draw

its an '03. its not that fan whizzing noise. its a loud clicking for about 8 seconds when you wake the car up. i did manage to take the panel off and its definitely the RH fresh air & recirculated air motor. i was able to pop it out and the the door does move freely. there was a thread on rangerovers.net about it where the guy was able to take it apart, clean it up, lube, and put it back together. however, these things dont seem too readily available and it didnt feel like it wanted to come apart too easily.

doeesnt seem like a common occurrence since it was hard to find almost any info on it. in the end i was able to easily take the panel off and pop the motor out. i took the motor apart, which consists of 4 plastic gears, cleaned it thoroughly, and put it back together with some light grease. can't say i saw much wrong with it when it was apart, but so far the procedure has been a success.

Are you talking about a buzzing / vibration type noise at highway speed ? If so thats from the ram air door vibrating against the air box . One of them has a blend door motor and the other is a slave driven by a cable .

I've got one in the shop right now with the same complaint. I haven't been able to duplicate it yet, but the customer is complaining of a clicking noise when they get in the car before starting the engine.

it will only do it if you let the car sit for a little bit and go into sleep mode. then when you open the door it wakes up and goes through a calibration process with the blend doors.

I've heard it now, its definitely not the e-box fan. I've only heard the e-box fans screech, I've never heard them click before.
