Has anyone done this? For those that don't know, it's a race about 2000 miles long over 7 days, all on the roads in Mexico. I will be going this year in a mechanic/support role. Anyone have any advice about the race itself, or even about traveling throughout Southern Mexico?

Here is an overview of the race:

And here is the route:

Thanks,
Scott

i've done it. twice. with a '55 porsche pre-A continental. had a blast. the most you'll have to worry about are the actual roads. people were all fantastic and hospitable, much of mexico is like that, once you get away from the stupid border towns. we trailered ours down the west coast, taking about a week to get to Tuxtla. i will never forget blasting through the cobblestone streets of Zacatecas at 1am after leaving one of the drivers post stage parties. it's a really big deal in the towns where the stages start and stop, really big. people come out in the thousands. lots of good stories.

A few questions;

1) Did you (or your support crew) have any problems pulling the empty trailer through the towns? I thought I read somewhere that some towns don't let you pull trailers on the main roads.

2) Also, how did the whole support crew thing work? Did they leave town first and meet you in the next spot, or did they follow along behind?
