Land Anchor

I got inspired to build a pull-pal like "land anchor" for self-recovery in sand, from this thread over on Jeep Forum:

Here's my result:

It's big and heavy, but does work in the soft sand I intended it for. Here's a test video:

I won't be selling or publishing specific design specs, just for fear or liability, but it's a very simple design that can be replicated with a band saw, a welder, and just a few pieces from your local metal supply store, and folds up for storage on a roof-rack fairly well. If I had this a few years ago out in the Mojave sand, it would have saved me HOURS of digging!

To each his own, not much call for it around here. I would have a tough time trusting that it would not come apart and rocket back at me.

Agreed, that's why I wouldn't sell one, too much danger if used or constructed improperly. If I had large trees or other stable objects around to pull against, it wouldn't be necessary.

The alternative is a "dead man", which involves burying something heavy (log, spare tire, etc.) and pulling agaist that. Too much work IMHO, and not much safer.
