Thinking about getting a LC, something in the 2000+ year range (prob 04 or up). Any specifics/years to look for or stay away from? Dont know much about them btw. Any help is appreciated.

No more rover???????

Trying to downsize the fleet, so no (temporarily relinquished it). Need a dependable 4wd for everyday use, hence the LC consideration. But only till things get sorted out.

You have probs with your 04?

No problems, just didnt have time to offroad it as intended so instead of letting it sit in one place decided to get rid of it. At the time paying for two vehicles doesn't make sense and using the D2 as a DD would be an overkill in my situation.

I have traveled many, many miles in Land Cruisers, but mostly older ones. FJ40s, 60s, and 70s. None of those were particularly comfortable, in fact they were all jarring as hell but that's what you get from driving a leaf-sprung truck in Africa.

Then I got to ride in a 100. It reminded me of the time I test drove the RR L322. It was hard to believe that the same company could produce such different vehicles that shared the same name. The newer Cruisers are a world apart from the old ones. Hope you find a good one.

Did the same thing (in Africa) in 2005 Land Cruisers (suv and box style). Those things did great, despite travelling all over the place non-stop. They were diesel and pretty rugged looking inside. Nothing close to the same interior that I am seeing on the market. I m just not a 100% on some peculiarities that may accompany LCs. I like the reliability and capability factor but do not really need the luxirious interior. I ll try to read up on the above posted link.

dont rule out the gx470 or even the newerish v8 4runner.

I like the GX myself.

Not a big Lexus fan. 4 runners seem a bit small but still pricy. I just saw the newer looking ones and I dont know if i dig the look. May have to go back a few times and see it again.

the GX is just a LC Prado with tthe circle L on it... kinda a cool looking truck. http://mycar.vn/Upload/ProAuto/3606/prado.jpg

and IIRC has more room on the inside than a 100. (IIRC, so i could be wrong)

Sounds like there's an easier way - get the 2nd set of wheels and put street rubber on them.
By the time you (if ever) decide to go back, you won't be able to find a clean one.

Yeah, I hear you. Just dont need a car and a truck right now, and it wasnt practical to keep the LR. Hence the downsizing action. We ll see what the future brings.

I bought the wife a 09 GX470 last year. No issues with it at all since delivery and it has only been back once to the dealsership for the 1K mile oil change. She is at 18K and everything is still running smoothly with it. I wish the Disco would have been like that.
All in all it is a nice car but we still use the Disco for the family trips if it involves any type of off roading. I think the Lexus could handle some trails but I would really hate to test it out. We have a trip to Colorado Springs (with a friend in a 09 4 Runner) to visit Pikes Peak coming up here in about 2 weeks and it is staying home. That is a Disco trip.

Oh FYI oil changes on the Lexus are a pain in the ass. 2 different plates to remove and they placed the oil filter right beside the sway bar. It was actually easier on her old IS350.

I must be missing something. I don't follow the logic on getting rid of a disco to downsize because you don't need a car and a truck and yet you are looking for a Land Cruiser.

it's ok to say you got scared or sick of the disco and just want something else.

I was thinking the same thing....but wondered if I just misread as I skimmed the thread!
