Land Rover Club VI ABS Mod

FWIW there are two aspects to the repair.

First is the replacement of the shuttle valve switches. This is a nut and bolt job, bit fiddly but quite a DIY job. The shuttle valve switch assembly is SWO500030, should be $60.00 or so.

The second part was to take the connection to those switches out of the modulator on a hard wired lead, which in most cases isn't needed.

There is an issue with connectivity between the shuttle valve switch assembly and the modulator main connector, and in many cases that is cured by fitting new switches.

If you need to get into the modulator block, you need to undo the M8 cap-head scrws holding the block together, split the block and pull out the connector and have a good look at it.

Mine had intermittent Three Amigos and I changed the shuttle switches but only checked, cleaned and resoldered the pins that mate with the switches connector, that was 3-4 years ago and it has been solid since then.

I have a couple of spare modulators here, can take some pictures if anyone needs them.

The fix is simple and if it is an electric fault will fix it most times I have only seen one bad switch ever.

First check the switch the ohm readings should be 1k and 2k ohms as you depress the switches, if the switch is good cut the wires that go to the modulator extend them about 8" and drill a hole in the bottom of the switch plate and run them out. Put everything back together and run one of the wires to ground the other you cut the green/yellow wire from the modulator plug and connect it to the wire that runs away from the modulator.

There are pages of detailed explanation here somewhere but this is how its done takes about 30 min maybe an hour or so the first time

The fix will fix the problem if that is actually the problem. Don't forget that.

I've worked on a few and never had to do the wiring mod yet, nearly always tarnished contacts on the plug and socket arrangement for those switches.

You can squeeze the female contacts together with some fine snipe-nosed pliers.

The plating on the male pins should be bright, but is mostly dull and corroded.
