Has anyone else just recieved a copy of this Land Rover magazine "OneLife". Well it sucks! I can't remember what they called it, but Rover used to publish a magazine years ago that was much better. I'm no marketing guru but I think owners want to see some connection with the history of Rover, you know- all the Britishness surrounding the vehicles and lifestyle. Isn't just about everyone who buys a Rover an anglophile of some sort. And what about the off roading. What about the shooting stories, offroading, safaries, military use, you know the best british guns, sh%&^t like that. Let's see some of the old Land Rover ads featuring the Series vehicles.

Land Rover marketing/headquarters has lost sight of what owning a Land Rover is all about. They need to read and study each edition of The Rovers North News that I get periodically, now that's a pretty good publication about interesting Rover stuff. There was an insert in the "OneLife" from the Vice President of Marketing in North America, Sally Eastwood- maybe of few of us that feel like I do need to let her know what it means to be a Rover owner.

They should have local Mall Profiles and stories on soccer teams.

Actualy LR marketing has hit the nail on the head with this new magazine. 90% or more of the Land Rover American market will never take there trucks off road. Land Rovers are lifestyle status symbols. Be proud that you actualy use yours as it was intended. It makes you stand out in the Land Rover crowd. I do remember the old magazine LR put out and you are right it was much better.

Sorry for being a bit late on this thread...just found it in that little box of "related topics" that aren't related at the bottom of another thread.

The old LR magazine was called The Land Rover Journal. It rocked. I have Issues 1, 2, 3, 5 on hand, and I have 6 and 7 somewhere in my closet. I still love looking back at them for reference.

LR used to have so much great promo stuff. Anyone remember "Land Rover Adventures"? I always loved getting that video in the post. I still have all of those, too. I watched them a few weeks ago, and it made me yearn for the LR of old.

Remember when LR was all about off-roading and Britishness? When there was the Camel Trophy? Trek? Those cool driving schools? The latter is still around, but now they're "Land Rover Experience". I always wanted to do the one at The Greenbrier, where I've been with my family several times. But I think that $400 is way too much for 4 hours of 4 wheeling.

Speaking of The Greenbrier...I have been there three times in my life, in 1994 (I don't remember anything), 2001 (for the 4th), and 2004. When we went in 2001, there was a great Gear store on the shopping promenade, with a woman at the desk who I spent 45 minutes talking Rovers with. It looked like the great old Land Rover Centres, with the green tiled column with the LR logo at the top, the compass on the ground, etc.

When we went in 2004, this space was now a different store. The LR elements were still there. LR was moved to the back of the shopping area, next to the nursery. It looked boring. The people knew zip zilch nada about Rovers. I was looking forward to purchasing something LR, but the only LR logoed or related stuff was expensive pewter models of vehicles. The entire LR mentality had changed. Granted, LR no longer sponsors the Greenbrier school, this may have been a way of keeping them just long enough at the end of the contract.

And back on shopping...remember Gear? Yeah, they still have it, but it's not really the same. It used to be great stuff. And remember the old website? With that build-your-own feature that was more a tool to view a truck with gear than actually pricing one? I loved building D-90s on that thing.

Here's the truth. LR's advertising image has gone bust. It lost all its British charm, the great stuff that made Land Rover, Land Rover. And Ford killed it all.

That's why I love our '94 Disco. It's one of the last remnants of the True Land Rover, the Land Rover that would dissapear in about 8 years. Now it's the "bling factor" - we've got Rovers that COME with 20" wheels. The travesty!

Okay, my nostalgic rant is done. Hopefully, for those that didn't realise it, you have gotten a little peek into mid to late 90s Land Rover lifestyle.

I've never read it...It come the same day as my LRM, for what ever reason, and it just gets over looked for about a week. Then, it ends up in the trash. Does not even look worthy enough for my bath room...

I have read it and have to agree with all of you. What I don't get is why they still don't put that stuff in the magzines anyway? Almost everyone who buys a Land Rover likes the fact that the car has the off-road capabilities that is has. I think that even your soccer mom and Gynocologists driving LR3's and Range Rover's around love the "ruggedness" of the Land Rover name.

Even Honda has better "adventure" marketing than Land Rover does, showing the Pilot out in the great outdoors where the guy sees all the gophers and flashes to his office. I have a lot of people who buy Rovers because of their "outdoor" appeal who will never take them to Moab or up any power line trails. They still think it's cool that they have such a capable 4x4. LRNA should push the image to these people and also satisfy the true enthusiasts.

I haven't gotten one since the preview of the Range Stormer one came out....

Someone send me one if you are going to throw it away!

I too have all the old Land Rover Journal magazines and all the new model publications back to 1998.....which is when I first became seriously interested in Rovers. I don't have too many videos though....besides D-web and Camel Trophy. I need to find some on ebay.

Yeah...when the lead article in next months turns out to be "The History of the Coffee Bean" you'll ship it back to Chapman so he can return it to the appropriate circular file. ;)
