Has anyone gone to the LR school in Asheville. My father wants to go and I just wanted to get input for anyone who has gone. We are thinking of doing the private instruction course. So tell me your opinions of it!

Only seen the school on TV. Walked the estates before...amazing. If you do go, I think they have a one on one food grilling class if interested. I visited their website and they have two different rover driving experiences (one class is based on skill level) and several different time durations for the excursions. Let me know how things go if you do take the trip. I have been talking to my wife about doing the same thing late next Spring.

If I were going to do private instruction, the first and only person I would consider is Bill Burke, www.bb4wa.com.

I strongly agree with Pugsly, having gone on a number of training classes with Bill Burke. If you want to learn the capabilities of your Land Rover and how to drive it off-highway, go with Bill. If you want a cooking school or something, go to the place in North Carolina. But whatever, enjoy your Disco in the boonies!

Get on Bill's schedule, he is on the road all over the country. Set something up when he is coming through your neck of the woods.

Or, since you've always wanted to make the trip anyway, go to Moab and meet him there! :)

...less than a 30 hour drive from Charlotte!

Its about a 24 hour drive eeeek, and I thought the 2 hour drive from my house to school was bad. I will look at that and see.

24 hours? that's easy, two 12 hour days of driving and you're there. Or go with someone else and drive straight through.

We're heading out west over Christmas / New Years. Planning on stopping in Moab over New Years.

I am sure Bill is Great, but the guys there at the LR Experience are very good. The trails are really good, and definately push the vehicles. They were designed by Bob Burns, the head of Land Rover's Off-Road Programs, and by Jim Swett, '95 Camel Trophy. The instructors are all knowledgable, and know what they are doing. I definately think it is worth your while.

If you check Bill Burke's website (http://www.bb4wa.com/) you will see that he has 2-day training sessions almost all over the U.S.-- Northeast, Southeast, Middish-West, and West Coast in addition to Moab. It's an experience not to be missed if you're a Land Rover fanatic.

Haven't been to the driving school, but Asheville is one of my favorite towns and the Biltmore is fantastic. If you go, make sure you tour the house and grounds as well. Oh, and give us all a review!

Re: Bill Burke
He will be at the MAR this year....doing some great winching sessions. Yet another reason to come to VA! :)

I'm not knocking the LRE folks, I've done some dealer outings when they come out. They are knowledgeable and capable and I have always enjoyed myself.

FWIW, I've just found Bill to be much more in tune with off road enthusiasts who really push their vehicles (modified and older models), and the LRE folks to be more tailored to helping people take their mall crawlers off road for a day (stock current models).
