I thought this might be of interest to anyone with SLS (air bags) on their Disco.

Went off-roading on the Lassen-Applegate Trail with Off Road Experience last week. I get about 40 miles off I-80, go through a big dip, park waiting for the rest to get through it and BANG! Large explosion and my car dips on the driver's side. Sounded like I parked on a landmine. I thought a tire blew but it was the air bag. Fortunately I had plenty of help and Mike Green there so the Disco was soon jacked up with the hi-lift enough to get a bottle jack under it and the tire was removed exposing a collapsed air bag. Amazingly Mike pulled it off and the bag didn't blow. It literally blew the top off of it! While we couldn't get the ring back on that holds the bag onto the top, someone came up with the idea of using hose clamps. We got two large ones and put them together and amazingly it held air for the rest of the trip and so far all of today.

Needless to say the air bags are history and I'm putting springs on the back end. I can't live with the fact that the cheapest air bag I've found so far is $325. Then if I replace it I'll still have to worry about them blowing. I can put in two springs with all the hardware for less.

So if anyone has SLS and goes off roading, I'd suggest you buy a couple of huge hose clamps in case this happens to you. Also, as soon as the springs get put on I will have one air bag for sale for $250 if anyone needs a replacment or if you want a spare to take
off roading. :(
