Since the powers that be have decided to close down some great trails in about a month for good in the Natural Bridge area in eastern KY, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing one last trail run on some of these trails? Specifically Whites arch and the Nature trail, also the Sand Lick creek area! I would like to hit them one last time before they become history to motorized traffic. Let me know if your interested.

Yeah sorry to say, it's true!

Check the KentuckyKrawlers web site and/or we-go-offroad for more info on the closures. It looks like there is only going to be a 4 or 5 week window before it's shut down for good! I know they are all trails most of us in the area have run quite a few times and may be sick of, but that is where I(and probably most of us) first cut my teeth into offroading. Just thought it might be cool to run them one last time, with a few other Rovers would be even better.

Also the 16th annual j##p jamboree that was to be held out there this June has been cancelled, due to the park service denying land use permits!

on the Kentucky Krawlers site it states as of Jan 6

"...Mutual respect will keep trails accessable with permission, trespassing will not. There has been a movement towards shutting down the Whites Arch Trail, so please stick to the main road and do not expand the trail with bypasses or alter the surrounding areas in any way. "

So it doesn't sound like they have shut it down yet, it would be a shame if they do!

Check www.we-go-offroad.com, a bunch of people attended a meeting the Park service put on about land use issues. They stuck around after to answers some questons and concerns about the above mentioned areas, and were told that in the next 4 to 5 weeks the areas would be closed for good!

Check again on the land use issues page in the Krawlers forum, it quotes what is said on the we go site. The arch and the narrows closed for good!

Well that really sucks, too bad I can't be there for a "Final Ride"! How much publicity has this gotten there(regular media)? I wonder if the local boys will just smash through the barriers!

Another thing, I wonder where they will cut access, the road that leads to Stump cave, leads to private property, so they can't just gate it off, I guess they will block it down at the creek.

We had to know this was coming. Last time I was down there in November I was wondering how this place stays open. I have been so disgusted the past few times I have been there where you could really see the impact some of us have had on the area and how different it is now. The Natural Bridge area has been my favorite close spot for many years now, but I am not unhappy about the closure. Honestly, I am really glad they did this, the land needs some time to heal.
