Leaky rear main seal 95 D1 135000 miles

Can a rear main seal be serviced without engine or crank removal? Be nice if I could drop oil pan and hit rear main and pan gasket.

Go on, give me the bad news!

It is most likely the cross seals, and yes you can get to them without pulling the trans

Dealer replaced the rear main seal and removed the transmission in the process. That was under warranty.

Same here on my 95. They did it 2 or 3 times under warranty, can't remember really. I believe it is a cheap part, but likely >$1000 labor at dealer.

If it is minor, most people live with it.

rear main seal is a one piece seal with t seals on the sides of the rear main bearing cap. to replace the rear main pick your poison, remove transmission or remove the engine. on the t seals pull pan, pull bearing cap replace seals button it up.
