I'm starting to look at adding additional lights to my truck.. I have a TJM T15 brush guard and a Safety Devices roof rack.. so I have the possibility of adding up to 6 lights.. I'm not sure which ones I should use.. I was thinking Hella 550 Fog Lights on the brush guard since I don't have fog lights.. but then i'm not sure what I should do on the top.. should i go for all 4? Are the Hella 550 driving lights useful at all? They'd be used for both on-road and off-road driving.. off-road doesn't need much distance since the trails I go on are generally pretty dense with trees.

why dont you wait then and do it in sections and not all at once. I am still saving up for the 2 4000's i want to put on my bumper.

I was thinking the same thing Craig.

I purchased my Hella 4Ks for $105 a piece (2 years ago) and even went with Hella Relays that were like $20 per unit.

EE prices = H 4k = $115
Wiring Harness: $40.00
Clear Cover - $12

115+40+12 = 167

167*6 = $1002

[I actually just guessed that before, but I was pretty darn close!]

Yeah, I might just do them in sections.. I think I definitely should get fog lights though being that I don't have any.. Anyone have any experience with the 500s? It's only $75 for the pair and comes with the harness

Paul is correct, the Hella wiring harness switches two lights.

Ryan, did you know that the 4K comes in a 55W fog lamp version? It's a very nice beam pattern that is broad and low. I am using the fogs on my TJM T17.

Oh, and those dinky 500s are no comparison to the 4K. Don't compromise and get the 500s just for the sake of having lights. You'll save more time, money and effort just wating and wiring the 4Ks when you can afford them.

Jason,
you got 4k floods?

I go 24k with 2 fogs, 2 euro, 2 cornering.
I put 100w bulbs in the fogs but i still kinda think they suck. Then again, I wanted a true flood and one wasn't available so it was a compromise.

yep, i have the 500's on my bumper now and i can't stand them. am pissed at myself for not just waiting two more payperiods and shelling out the cash for the 4k's. when i compare my 500's to anyone else's 4k's, i get major light envy. hopefully will get the 4k's in the next couple of months. you can have my 500's then if you want.

JSQ - Sorry bud, meant fogs. BTW, I upgraded to 130W all around and noticed a big diff on the fogs (never had 100s in the ones on the rack so tough to compare).

Will, nice setup but Paul's right. You could have straightened those things.

Ryan, I know you're anxious and want to run out and buy some cheaper lights, but don't waste your money. You will be dissapointed with them and we'll see an add in the "parts for sale" section. I agree with the consensus. Buy them a couple at a time. Don't worry about the clear covers if money is an issue. They come the white covers. Also, SCREW the wiring harness. Buy a Hella relay with an integrated fuse and make your own. I don't know if disco II's have any room for factory switches, but if you can do it that way. It all turns out to be a much cleaner look IMO.

Hella 4K's :D

Having waisted $$ by being impatient and learned the hard way (with tires, not lights), wait and get the good stuff. Unless you don't really plan on using the lights for anything other than show.

I like the 4K cornering light for the bumper (x2) because it floods well and it throws light pretty well down the road. As a bonus, it comes with a 100w bulb. They are great on the trail and very functional on the road, especially on twisty roads. I plan on two Euro beams (center) and two more cornering lights (outside) for the rack soon... (maybe this weekend?) Get the two, then add as $$ allows, you will be much happier in the long run.
