I bought this stuff:

http://amzn.to/1TZ0K30

because it's easy to work with.

One big unknown: DURABILITY. Does anyone know how this lasts over time? Crack and fall off, or stay pretty well as is? How does it hold up in the environment (like in the engine bay)?

Rare is the job more annoying than undoing and redoing old electrical tape work.

the stuff in a yellow can from home depot? mostly used it in room temperature applications. its softer than most epoxy potting compounds for around a year, then stiffnes up

Id guess it initially cures at shore a scale of 50 and after a year is around 80

its great for when you forget to put heat shrink on something before crimping or soldering

use it in a ventilated area. you can feel your brain cells melting while using it

I used it on the two D2-to-D1 Cruise Control adapters I made to cover the bare solder joints where heat shrink really wasn't possible.
Cannot comment to its longevity but it covered nicely and set up nicely. Not as hard as epoxy but not too soft, either.

This is by far the best thing for what you are trying to do. I don't know how expensive it is, but a small box will last you a long time.
