Lockers Question

Jeremy,
So the one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet are the rear axles, with a Detroit or ARB you really want HD axles in the rear, stockers won't take a lockers abuse tooooo long.
There is the last of my 2 cents worth.
Have fun with your truck, you'l be amazed at the traction, now it will just be a question of are you willing to do what your truck is able to do?

If you listen to the folks at Tractech there will be another option "in the near future". That's the Electrac which would effectively give you a TT when unlocked and an electrically-operated locker. I keep waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

I have DT/TT in my D1 here is SLC and frankly, I haven't noticed any issues driving in Heavy snow. We had a 24" dump and the truck drove flawlessly up the pass to the ski resort. No pushing or anything...

EMBIBB, you're correct...an AWD rig like a disco or RR with a locker out back and a TT up front (or stock) will not be the handful most folks say it will be in the snow. In a classic 4wd rig (in 2wd when 4wd is not engaged) in 2wd, a locker in the snow is indeed sketchy. Put it in 4wd and even with an open front diff, stability is restored and the rigs capabilities in the snow are greatly increased IMHO.

no? When the CDL us unlocked it IS all wheel drive. When the CDL is locked it becomes 4wd.

I was using the term for the sake of simplicity :) Most of us North Americans cut our teeth locking and unlocking hubs on pickups and J**ps

Potato/potaaaato, you got my point ;)

I do know what I'm driving...are semantics leading you to think otherwise?

Locker effects with ABS on braking

I have yet to see any comments on the effects of TT or DT with ABS. I'm considering options as well and value all opinions. Most comments regarding driving on snow and ice are related to motivating. However, I would like to know how braking is effected. Do the TT allow for independant wheel motion during braking so that ABS can effectively work? Or should ARB be considered? I am biased towards the TT front and rear. I do go offroad occasionally, but not enough to warrant the expensive ARB.

Luis,

If you go off road occaionally, you are a perfect candidate for TT front and rear. The added traction will take you anywhere you would dream of going and there is NO compromise on road.

You also don't have to concern yourself with Heavy Duty upgraded axles to withstand the locker's added force.
