Measure how much flex you have before you buy the shocks. Use a ramp, forklift, anything you have available to measure the distance between the top shock mount and bottom shock mount when fully compressed and fully stretched. The difference between the two measurements will give you the mount of travel you have in your specific vehicle.

10in all the way around is probably what you want..or maybe 10in short body up front and 12in in the rear..

I have 11" Fox all round. Perfect 27 1/2" on the rear w/ RTE cones and shock mounts The front I am still trying to get just right w/ 11" eye to eye fox shocks and pin adapters on both ends and Scorpion cones it works with bigger bump stops

Go with the longest shocks you can fit when the suspension is fully crossed up and bottomed out. The more wheel travel you can get the better the ride is over a wider variety of terrain.

I thought the exact same thing. It seems no one wants to touch a P38 in terms of off-road add-ons or mods. Except for Alan Bates, who does some awesome work. But I've never heard of anyone offering a P38 lift kit. My curiousity is piqued now....

Arnt the 10"SB pretty similar in lengths to the OME's. I like the 12"SB which are the same compressed lenth as the regular 10"

sorry to revive an old topic.. but.. i'm still kind of at a loss for shocks here.. I kind of like the idea of fox racing shocks with remote resevoirs.. in 10" - 12" i guess.. but can i order them with specific eyelet to pin or eyelet to eyelet? anyone know of a good retailer for them? also i'm curious about the OME 12" SB shocks as well.. thanks again

My coil spring conversion, OME 781 and 761 springs and Bilstein HD shocks gave me about a 3.75' lift.
AFAIK Bilstein only makes one length shock for the P38.

i might be the lab rat for those alan.. i'm trying to figure out how to get a flexy truck.. so i'll be dropping the sway bar.. possibly doing disconnects after i find out what its all about.. and some longer shocks.. how about cones? i don't see an easy way to mount them in the rear of a p38.. any ideas on that subject?

Don't run cones, everybody I wheel with that has them want's to get rid of them.

If you do try the FJ80 Bilsteins, check them over real good to make sure they will fit before installing them, that way if they look like they won't work, you can return them.

lifted p38

MikeD. As too am I attempting to acheive the flexy p38. With your lift, how is the CV jounts and drive train holding up? When you are at your utmost down travel position, how are you going to reseat your springs when you return to level axle position with out cones? This has puzzled me too. I am sitting at a normal ride height with air suspension at this point in time. I am doing my research to find the best possible "kit" for lifting the Rover. With AlanB's help (thanks AlanB), he has solved the EAS fault issue with out using the "black box" from Atlantic British. Now I need to decide which spring adapter kit I should use and which springs I should use. It seems that the 781 and 764 OME are a popular choice as is the Rover Tyme Discovery 3" lift springs. Do you have any suggestions?
With the shock issue, why cant you order the longer shocks and take advantage of using limiting straps? You could really fine tune the down travel with the straps. this is something that I have thought of, or you could just use the brake lines as your limiting factor, but for some reason this doesn't seem like a longterm solution. Thinking of the brake lines, have you purchased longer ones? Did you have to get the custom or did you source them from a diffrent make and or model?
