I'm looking for a descent CB radio and don't know a whole lot about them. I see them ranging in price from $40 to $150. I don't think I would use/need all the features that I've seen in some.

Just looking for something for the trails as well as messing with truckers. (just kidding on that last one)

Thanks for any input.

I got this one and love it http://www.galaxyradios.com/33.html It's may be a little more than what you want, but I have had it peaked and tweaked, so it gets out there pretty good.

For the money (80.00) this Cobra unit is a nice one:

The Cobra 29 is a popular CB too. I had a 29 once as well. It's a nice unit.

I like the Wilson antennas. You may want to look at them too. They cost a little more, but they are nice, and easy to tune.

Everything is on the handset, nice discrete mounting.

I did the Cobra 75 WXST. All the controls on the handset and has weather channels too. It can do priority scan and all that kinda stuff. About $100.

I got the Cobra 75wx also.

.

Comes in handy if you have more than one vehicle you might mount it in, as you can get the connection box seperately for about $20-$30.
Of course, the handset is bulkier/heavier than a "normal" CB.

I purchased my radio from www.cbradiousa.com

They were very knowledgeable about what CB's work well off-road and what ones have issues. They even sent it ?tweaked and peaked?.

For my application they recommended a few different CB?s and I ended up choosing the Uniden Pro 520XL. All in all I am really happy with the CB and antenna setup they sent. However if I were to purchase another CB it would be the Cobra 75, I have seen a few of them mounted and I really like it.

For now I think I will stick with my current setup as I am very happy with the mounting system I came up with for my CB/ GPS.

Great customer service

Steve,
the connectoin box is just a switch box where you plug the power line, the microphone, and the antennae line into. Mounts discretely under the driver seat.

I also have a 75 WX and IMHO its pretty sweet, if you are looking for a small dicrete unit.

I have the Uniden Pro520xl. I dont remember how much i paid for it but it has the RF Gain control which i liked and fit perfectly where the sunroof switches would go. I dont have any complaints about it.

Or wherever you choose to put it.
I had to remove my dash to replace the heater core :( , so took the opportunity to drill a hole in the firewall, put in a grommet and run the coax through there, up the A pillar behind the trim and mounted the connection box on the cheap plastic crappy thing that sunvisor mounts to.

where i'm at right now, duh...
I have the Cobra also. The handset connects to the box under my right leg below the seat. When I don't need it, I just put a small rubber cap over the connector to keep dirt out. Then you don't even notice it.

Here's a pic...
