Well now since winter is here and I lost my job. I was thinking of just keeping my furnace off and just heat and live out of my beedroom only.
I have a big tower heater right now that isnt worth a shit. My buddy has this little fan heater that will kick my big ones ass.
Anybody have any input on Oil filled radiator, Fan heaters, or ceramic heaters.
Remember I am looking for the best bang for the buck since I have no job.

At least the janitor job is something to do till a good job comes along. It's also a bit of cash coming in to help with the bills etc....

The ceramic heaters generally work pretty well, I've never checked the power consumption on one though.

Kerosene heaters are also real good but I'm not sure of the price of kerosene at the moment.

One thing to consider is leaving the faucet running at a trickle if your killing the heat to the whole house so the pipes don't freeze.

Check out Holmes space heaters. I've had a couple and my buddy always left his heat off and just carried Holmes from the living room to the bedroom during the winter in his drafty old house back in Ohio. We used to sit around his place back in college and Holmes became one of the guys, just sitting there doing his heating thing. We'd be sittin there sippin beers, smokin a bowl, listenin to tunes, and someone would invariably say, "Yo, what's up Holmes?"

2nd or 3rd whatever it is on the oil filled radiator ones. Good steady safe heat.

Be careful with the pipes man - do you own or rent? Remember frozen pipes and the mess it makes (can be multiple thousands REALLY fast) will not be covered by insurance if you knowingly left the heat off.

Good luck keeping warm.

Just DO NOT use the exhaust from your truck to warm the house....... there was a local guy who tried that some time ago. He really wasn't trying to kill himself - he was just an idiot.

sorry to hear that man!

time to prioritize quickly before your reserves are spent. cable goes, cigaretts go etc. even if you are fixing to draw unemployment as it is only like %50 or so. get prepared for the worst!

if worst comes to worst you can live in my basement but i will make you my love slave ;)

enjoy!

I got one from Wally World for 20 bucks or so called "Titan". Heats about a 12'x12'X8' space with drafty windows pretty good. Its a fan, but it had served me well when my situation was was similar to yours. Although, I have always been partial to the oil rads for a larger space that needs consistent heat.

vornado's actually work, kinda gimmicky but someone gave me one and it worked.

close off doors and rooms so you can keep your heat where you want it. put towels in the window sills to cut down on draft, or use curtains.

A 10,000 BTU kerosene space heater is cheap, safe, reliable, and cheap to run. The only thing that will cost less to run is natural gas. We use a couple to heat three rooms in our house (finished basement, kitchen, back porch).
You can find a good used kero heater at a garage sale for $20-$25.
I have a couple extra available if you find your way to State College PA for some reason.
