On the 04D2, 44K miles.

At highway speeds there is a high pitch whine coming from the tranny/tcase area. It gets louder when there is less load, like coasting down hill.

I changed the tranny and tcas fluids about 15k miles ago.

Any ideas? Ticking time bomb?

My D1 with 101k does it too but I usually have hate music blasting and don't hear it.

Try Lucas. Actually helped mine from what i could tell.

lucas foams in gear boxes. I would just use a thicker gear oil like rotella 85w140.

none of your fucking business
Oh man, your in deep shit now richard.

The brake switch and now your transfercase is screaming...you've got all the telltale signs of an imminent self implosion. It's not going to last much longer...you really better unload it just as soon as you can.

It probably wouldnt make a trip much farther than from Maine to maybe.....gee, i don't know....maybe Raleigh.

You better start heading this way.

our tcase whined like that when we got it.

dealer wanted to R+R the tcase or troubleshoot it.

I decided to change the tcase fluid (with the recommended grade), 98% of the noise went away. Been fine ever since.

Run a full syn 75W90 and add a moly additive will be 30 percent better. Mine has been noisy for over 70,000 miles. might be your diffs too.
