Loose or missing gas cap

Well I dropped off the '06 SE (27K miles) at the dealer this morning for the fifth time to get this message and CEL to go out. Things replaced so far include: sensor, gas cap and seal and the filler neck and seals. First time I took it in they just reset the info screen and light. Each time two weeks after taking it in the message is back. After the message goes on and off 4-5 times it throws the check engine light on.

Anyone have a similar experience and like to share? Ideas? Is this typical? Dealer says no.

If you're getting a p0442 code you most likely need a DMTL(diagnostic module-tank leakage) pump for the evap system. I've fixed several LR3's and one RR Sport with that. Tell the tech to run the DMTL test with the IDS and if the pump voltage is 25ma or more it needs the pump if its 22-24ma it has a leak in the system some where.

Rob, are you going to that annoying dealer in Lynwood? Is the one in Bellevue any better even though ownership is all the same?

Yup. Got to stick with the same techs for this problem until they figure it out.

I've heard good and bad experiences with both. Though more bad with the (Seattle) Lynnwood store.

Have a favorite tech there? I try really hard to not go in there, but when I have to, anyone I should avoid or for that matter ask for?
