Thanks Carey, and YGM back.

Cold beer is coming soon.... only noon here so I need wait at least 15 more minutes. :)

Called my CC - they put me through to the luggage claim insurance dept..... they are open monday to friday..... it's friday....... but it's also Christmas eve day..... CLOSED! So Monday I may know something.

Looks like I will be traveling VERY light on wednesday to NZ. In a lot of ways I love that - very liberating. :)

buy your gear back in Colorado if you can...NZ will be VERY expensive for the same gear...the exchange rate is not a lot of help.

But hey you are going to NZ!!!!! Dont forget to do the Shotover Jet! - it will make up for it.

Sorry to hear - but like you said you are healthy!

What kind of stuff? Outdoors gear? If you need to borrow some stuff PM me and let me know. It sucks to be without your gear... ugh...

Ditto!

I have a kickass Mountain Hardware 3 person 3+ season tent that I won't need till spring. Plus other gear.

Thanks for the offer to borrow stuff - VERY much appreciated! Very kind of you. :)

I will be buying stuff tomorrow and Monday slowly taking advantage of sales after Christmas. Good timing to need stuff at least!

Most likely I'll replace the bigger items like my actual pack, down vest, soft shell and rain shell and my small tent, cook stove etc. Other than that I can replace smaller items once I'm there.

Merry Christmas to all! Life is still good, it's just "stuff". :)

I have a whisperlite white gas I can ship to you. The wifey says it is too dangerous for us to use backpacking so it sits and collects dust... Let me know... I can ship it to you.

Thanks Rob! I had a MSR Dragonfly in my pack that we've had for about 13 years. I will miss it.....

If you're serious I'd take it, and happily pay you what ever it's worth.

I am not sure they will let it on a carry on - for obvious reasons I am NOT checking another bag!

What i may do since I really don't need much "gear" the first week and a half or 2 weeks (staying in Auckland area, buying a car/truck, helping someone rebuilding an old 30 wooden sailboat before setting out to travel and then work more elsewhere) is have my wifey FedEx/UPS me a box from home as I need my contact lenses which are there and I have a couple other items at home that would be nice to have now.

Maybe you could send it to her in Maine and she can pack it with the other few items? I'll PM you and we can work out the details.

I really appreciate it, and thanks to everyone for the help and feeling of community - who say DWeb is nothing but a bunch of d!ckheads? ;) :D

Seriously, call or PM your address and the whisperlight with the pump, cleaning kit, and a bottle is yours. I would rather it go to someone who helped me in the past than let it sit in the garage. Just sent the address no money.

Yeeees. Porter in winter, with soft-boiled eggs, bacon and sourdough toast. Yum yum yum. Add a little black pudding to that and I'll melt.

Took advantage of some good sales yesterday, Gap crap for some t-shirts for $4 each, a new roll behind cheapie travel bag to get me over there at least (carry on size!!) another pair of Jeans for working in and a nice Mountain Hardware rain shell for super cheap. :)

I'll be fine - and I really appreciate all the help and kind words.

What's amazing is that they don't lose more than they do. And the unclaimed and/or lost luggage goes here:

http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/

There is a side link on that page to examples of 'treasures' they've found...

From the site - 'Click on the suitcase to "unpack" some of the treasures we've found in lost luggage.'

when i clicked on the suitcase it found this:

Been to Unclaimed baggage because it is only 20 minutes away from me and they really didn't have anything nice there for sale. Think of it as an overgrown thrift store.

Re: Lost by United Airlines: one mountaineering pack with three months of clothes/equip.

was forced to check my clothes so I could keep my gear with me on the plane. the one time I do they lose my suitcase. per their tracking system, my clothes were in the airport I arrived in-they just didn't know where. so I was out of town to cover an event-had all my camera gear but no clothes. turns out my bag never left Atlanta. what gets me is that there was no way for them to "track" my bag and pinpoint it. they delivered my bag to the hotel the morning I was flying out-and they almost missed me the fuckin' 'tards!
