LR3 Diesel for the US?

Good Morning all, I wonder if anyone knows if Land Rover has considered bringing the Diesel powered LR3 to the US? My wife has a 2006 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI, and the engine is just fantastic! Quiet, smooth, powerful, and 35mpg to boot. I also have read that the Diesel rovers don't have the reliability issues that the gas ones do, any truth to that? I think I would put down my deposit today if they announced production!

Nothing that I have heard. I've been wishing for a diesel for a long time but Land Rover has taken the decision that it would be too expensive to design a diesel that meets US emision standards.

Expectthebest, that is not quite correct. In fact, the F150 will be shipped with the Land Rover diesel V8 tdi that's currently in the Range Rover and RRS overseas.

But will it be in an LR3? Highly unlikely. Sigh....

Well, at least it's a start.

the first rover you will see in the US with a diesel according to my rep will be a sport sometime between 2011-2012. We have our grassroots meeting in october and I'm sure it will be addressed and I will let you know what I find out

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that meeting! Please let them there is a real market for their product with increased fuel economy. Especially in the LR3. It would seem to make more sense to introduce it into the true "Utility" vehicle of the brand, and not the sport, or super luxury model. I have seen and ridden in the central american version of the LR3 with a diesel, and it is fabulous.

Regards,

Mike

It would also make competitive sense with the proposed $50 billion federal loan to the Detroit three to develop fuel-efficient cars.

I think it makes a hundred times more sense to start with the three but theres a couple reasons it makes sense on the corporate side.
#1 The diesel lr3 would be about 6 grand more than the gas version (speculation based on conversations with whoever at lr i can get to talk about it)
#2 They have to get rid of the majority of the gas vehicles before they can start producing and shipping more shit that wont sell, there are a tremendous amount of lr3s already in production or accounted for that must be sold before a diesel can be brought here.
#3 Being that the diesel would be more expensive that means that an HSE lr3 (approximately 57,900 msrp) with diesel would cost more than the standard HSE sport (msrp 62,900). So they have to wait till they do a redesign on the sport and full size so they can bump the price and put a gap between the 3 and the sport.
Again I'd rather see it start in the three but i dont think that its going to happen that way but you can always keep your fingers crossed.

We had the opportunity to have a Diesel Discovery 3 for a week when we went to the UK for the National and on Holiday. Can't say enough about. We really liked it, good power/torque delivered quietly with about 30 mpg. We also did the factory tour. We asked our guide, a former LR engineer for 30 years now giving tours about if he had heard anything about the Diesel coming here he said 2010. So you can take that for what its worth. But we would spend the extra 6K for it.

I saw an LR3 with the TDV6 here in metro Detroit a few months before the sale of LR to Tata. The automakers typically bring in quite a few vehicles for testing & evaluation, but those vehicles aren't necessarily intended for US sale. So unfortunately, the sighting doesn't mean much. Pity.

I would trade my LR3 for a RR Sport with a TDi, (since they are basicly the same vehicle just tarted up differently). And I wouldn't mind paying more for the RR Sport either to get that engine.
