LR3 Spare Tire Swing Away Arm

The two tires are dumb looking. The bumper is ok, but the bright diamond plate looks like ass. I don't like the latches, either.

not a fan of the 2 tires either, but I'm sure it would be easy to use that second swing arm to mount some Jerry cans, or whatever tickles your fancy.

I'm wondering if you can get it without the second swing arm. Thinking about that for my LR3 so I can carry a full size spare (replaced original tires in 19's for BFG 265/65 on 18's - won't quite fit that size underneath.) plus get a beefier rear end.

Everyone needs a beefy rear end.

Kaymar makes that swing away as a single, a double, or a single with a jerry can holder. You can order it as any of the three variants. Even though I don't like the look of the double wheel carrier; I see the need; as I run the Yoko's and they are directional. If I ran a directional tire on the LR3, I would probably order the double. Otherwise, I would run the single, with jerry cans on the other side.

hmmm, I got the Kaymar recently, installed it and now have it off to modify as per similar gripes above. 'if' one needed to carry 2x spares, great, but not likely in the US unless you go up the alaska hwy often. I plan to 'move' the carrier arm inboard a few inches to allow visual of right rear tail lamps by following drivers even though the bumper does have very nicely built-in bumper lamps that fully function in all signals, even brighter 'rear fog' glow.

the bumper is quite nice and in my opinion, slightly pricey but worth it. i installed it alone in 2 hours having never done this type of thing. i have photos on my disco.co.uk gallery ("jwest")

Both the brit pacific and the kaymar use the same actual latch, which is no where near as sweetly designed as the aRB rear bumper made for the land cruiser 100 series that has hidden auto latching with release pull tab. but then you'd have to buy the land cruiser to use it ;)

the hugeness is mainly the distortion. this tire is actually same outer diameter as stock, but yes, in photo looks big.

Well, the Kaymar is only brought in through Man-A-Fre on the west coast, as far as I know. As stated above, you can order it with 0,1,2 pivots and either left or right choice of tire carrier or jerry can holder. The can holder comes with a license plate relocation kit. I don't however recall if mine has a lamp for the license plate (required I think in many US states). I can post more when I know.
It does come with wiring to splice into the rear tail lamps and these bumper lamps are recessed and have a sealed circuit board.

Called Man-A-Fre today on this. Told me they only deal with 'cruisers now & couldn't get the Kaymar bumper for either my LR3 or D90. Any ideas on who to call for a US distributor?

Two tires are not "dumb" looking. The photos are not so good but in the landscape where the majority of real 4x4 users drive, 2 extras is sometimes needed or ARB wouldn't also offer the same thing. It may be odd looking, but I am tired of people being so judgemental about every little thing that other people are interested in - rather than simply saying something isn't their preference. Or saying nothing at all in fact, who asked "how and why do you hate ____?" No, people were having a discussion on tire carriers.

For those who do like the idea of one of these tire carriers, the Kaymar sill/plate is aluminum and easily painted, or otherwise coated with a bedliner material. I plan to take the wirebrush/grinder to mine and have it coated with bedliner material that will be both non-skid and not so bright. As it comes in slightly polished aluminum, it would accent well on a silver disco or if one had other silver highlights. It's too bright to me otherwise. But it doesn't look like "ass" regardless. I for one like the look of my fianc?s "ass". So, maybe that meant it looks awesome.

This bumper is very well crafted and from a distance on it's own, without anything attached, just about perfectly matches the design of the car rather than the fairly non-vehicle specific like the arb unfortunately is.

If enough people are serious, one of the primary companies might. Atlantic British is always adding new things. I think they have been the most progressive in broadening the line they carry and actually hearing you when asked for something new. They special ordered my narrower rear Hannibal canopy that is actually D90 specific, but of course they were already carrying other Hannibal stuff. Rovers North on the east coast as well, British Pacific, Expedition Exchange, maybe even those OKoffroad guys who I just got waffle boards from. They told me they were about to also add aluminum waffle boards or something and woiuld give the Rover club a discount.

Then there's the UK crowd who gets the bumper, maybe a round about way would be throug the UK but to share a pallet with someone to keep shipping $ down.

Just for grins & giggles, I called High Country 4x4 here in Denver. Told me no problem getting one for the D and another for the LR3.

I asked who they were getting it through - turns out it's Man-A-Fre.

So Man-A-Fre won't order one for me, but they will for High Country 4x4. Go figure.

Anyone else in the Denver area want one? Might be able to save a buck on shipping.

Did you tell Denver that MAF isn't carrying them? and did they say it can still work? very curious.

I did tell them. He found that as odd as you did. He's checking back with MAF to make sure they heard the LAND ROVER part.
