LR3 Test Drive

Had to put my DII in the dealer to check out some differential leak and got an LR3 loaner vehicle. It was hard to decide at first but I found that this is no longer a Land Rover even though it is called one. Where's the Land Rover look, the Land Rover character, the extra back seats my kids like to get in, the down shift to 3,2,1on the downhill, the I-beam frame, the high clearance look?
I dont have the details but a larger v8 on a lighter chassis should be nice but it may come at larger fuel consumption or did they improve that? (I have a 4.0L V8 Disco II)
Those Ford boys have just made another fancy high end Ford and taken away years of character and style. I think I will keep my DiscoII for years to come, cause no one makes them like that any more...

Where are you getting this stuff? The LR3 still has the 3rd row seating available as an option, it still has a boxed ladder chassis (albeit a unibody-style upper body built onto the frame), The '03-'04 Discos had a larger 4.6 engine than the 4.4 in the LR3, and the vehicle weighs more than the previous Discos.

But no, it doesn't get better gas mileage.

if you are still driving the loaner, shift the transmission shifter to the left while in D, then shift up or down. tiptronic stuff kicks in.

and actually, it gets better mileage than the discos.

as for the rest of your impression... well.. let's just say it doenst' have the character of the disco. come to think of it, it's NOT a disco. LOL

Really? Cool.... I had read what the EPA said it would get which was less than what my Disco did, but if it is getting better mileage all the better then......
