Hey,
The LR3 looks okay to me, except the lack of safari windows and no rear spare tire. (But retains the swoop in the rear window? Cheesy.)

Anyway, I'm really the last guy to talk, since I'm not XTREME OR HARDCORE, but aren't those LR3 pics really just a dirt road with some mud puddles? Couldn't they test it out on something a little more challenging? Maybe I'm just mad because no one invites me to these things.

The other pics of the Series trucks were cool, by the way.

I keep hearing great reviews of the LR3/Discovery 3. Claims that it is "the most capable off-road vehicle Land Rover has ever built" and the like.

However, there are two things that keep springing to mind:

1. Will this thing actually work as advertised in five years (when I can afford to buy it used)? Anything that relies on that many sensors and assorted electronics will be susceptible to the degeneration of the connectors, especially in locales that use salt on the road. and;

2. The substitution of the curved glass in the rear for the Alpine windows make it look like a Bronco II. I wonder if one of the members of the Bronco II design team was assigned to the group that redesigned the Discovery.

I had a thought. Maybe Ford put that swoop in the rear window and the ability for an after market spare tire carrier...

Here is a shot of the center manager at Land Rover Nashville in an LR3 in Canada a few months back.

The sales manager has a demo LR3 which he took out on a dealer trail ride in Dec. to Monteagle, TN. He was extremely impressed with how it handled the mud and rocks on the trail.

Now for some dirt

I went and bought an LR3 last week. This is my first Land Rover (been wanting one for many, many years). I started to get nervous though....the check engine light had come on three times, and they couldn't find the fault. The diagnostic said it was an Evap. leak. So...on the third time, Service said that they were going to get to the bottom of it, gave me a loaner and took the LR3. By the end of the day, they found the problem. It was a vacuum line going to the fuel tank. They said what must have happened is that when the vehicles are brought over, they cannot have the fuel tanks installed, so they install them when the reach the U.S. and this line must not have been hooked up. So, it seems to be fine now. Although having a weird issue with the radio....It's happened twice where I get no volume. So...back to the dealer....

Other than that, it seems great...the real test is off road...

I can't wait...

You know I can do the same thing with my 98 Disco or my 01 Disco II, that the LR3 is doing in those pictures. What's the big deal? For 45k, let's see it tackle something more extreme.

I'm looking at it the opposite way, the LR3 is capable of doing what your 95 and 01 Disco can do. Over the past couple of years as we have watched this vehicle come to life, there have been plenty of concerns and speculations about its abilities off road. While it isn't as upgradeable as a Discovery, it is a capable off-road vehicle.

I went along with Land Rover Nashville on there January trail ride in Monteagle. It actually did a lot better then I thought it would do. Although it was slow going with it up in front. I ended up pulling it up a wet clay hill with my classic :p.

(the stock tires suck! :D )

I went to test drive one about 2 weeks ago and had my dad order one...The test drive absolutly changed my whole opinion of the vehicle and I can't wait till it gets here. Looks like for the HSE fully loaded that we wanted we are looking at 6 months coming from brittain...Go figure that no dealership would have what we wanted....Oh well, same ole sh*t, different day...

I drove this in Canada during the training session and I was extremley impressed.
The LR3 was very capable in mud, water, hill climbs and decents. Over the rocks was most impresive because the throttle actually is reduced in that mode too alow for a smoother transition over the terain. This vehicle will allow a novice driver the opportunity to drive like they know what their doing (when in fact they dont).
I have been a long time rover fan and was quite disapointed when this was released as my first impression was not favorable. I still don't like the looks of the back end though i do like the functionality.
On the road it is fantastic, sterring, braking, horsepower have all been improved.
I for one like it: I just can't afford it.

I still love my 01 D2 and won't get rid of it.
