After only 25,000 miles the tires on the wife's LR3 are worn with wires showing. Some of this is probbly because I never checked the pressure and the dealer said one of them only had 15 PSI. Anyway I need new ones and know there has to be something cheaper then what it came with. What is the best lasting tire to get for her? It doesn't ever leave the pavement and she doesn't put that many miles on it.

Just looking not to spend so much.

Ewww Williamsburg, just kidding my brother lives in the 'Burg its actually a pretty nice spot.

As for tires, a quick search on tirerack shows the Dunlop Grandtreck ST8000 and Avon Tech ST getting good reveiws and they are under $200 each. Also check with your dealer, there was a service bulliton about factory missalighnment causeing premature tire wear, your LR3 may be one of the effected ones, if it is they will also buy back your tires at a variable price depending on the amount of wear. In your case it doesn't sound like you'd get much back, but it's worth a shot.

I thought I saw BFG was finally making the ATs in a size that fits. They last a long time and would do better in adverse weather than the stock tires. For such an expensive vehicle, I wouldn't skimp on the tires. You wouldn't wear an expensive suit with house shoes... :D

Well nobody had the Dunlops in stock. So I just ordered the Avons from Tire Rack. The cost had something to do with chooseing them, but they did have good reviews. I will now pay more attention to the tires on the wifes Rover.

Why not teach her to check the tire pressure herself?>! ;)

Why not buy her an '07? It comes with tires, and has a low tire pressure light.

Hola,

I'm still a prospective owner/troll, but did notice that Yokohama is going to be offering their new Geolander A/T-S in 265/60R18 110H+, which is only about a 1/2 inch larger than stock. Looks like a good tire for those of us who want an AT at a minimum.

Going back under my rock..

sorry for the late post.

I only got 30K out of the "60K" (the warranted milage) wranglers. Dealer said that was about what they were seeing, wear out quick due to the weight of the truck. POS tires for a 5500lbs truck IMO.

the ...edit, size is 265/65... 18 BFG ATs we replaced them with fit and look great

Where did you find the 285/85 18 BFGs? And how much were they?

Sorry, I mis-quoted the tire size, they are 265/65/18 (285/85 would never fit of course).

I got them at a sears auto center (only because it is across the street from work). Any place that carries Goodrich tires should be able to get them for you. A bit pricy at $255 but the stealership wanted $310 for the POS wranglers.

FWIW it may not have been you or your wife's fault. There is a TSB out for bushing settle that causes the tires to wear on the inside edge. There are specific VIN's that are affected by this so you may want to do a bit more digging. I pulled the quote from landroverclassaction.com

"Land Rover issued a technical service bulletin LA204-005 in the U.S. , which covers VINs 5A000360 to 6A403382. The TSB states that uneven tire wear may be caused by a degree of bush settle that affects the geometry of the tires increasing tire wear."

Would hate to put on new tires and have them wear prematurely.

So I guess the question is how much more wear do you need on the inside edge versus the outside to make a claim?

I have a set of 285/65/18 BFGs. Do you think these will fit on my LR3? I noticed you said 265/65s.....

Let us know if you try them.

I am looking at BFG A/Ts in either the 265/65-18 or 285/65-18 sizing.

I have zero problems with the 265s, haven't gotten underneath to see how close they are though. The 285s are an inch taller, best bet would be to find a tire dealer who is willing to test fit them for you before you buy.

How much have you used them off road etc? Can you confirm they are OK even at full stuff into the wheel well etc? What about at full lock of the steering?

Thanks for the info!
