LR3 Transmission question

My friend has has an 06 LR3 V8. This morning when he went to start it it said something to the effect of "transmission problem, limited gears available." He could not shift out of park, and said the drive showed a letter "F". Any ideas what this may be?
Parking brake sensor, transmission sensor...?

Could be the brake light switch or a bad/incorrect brake light bulb.

Could it also be the battery starting to go? Esp given the cold?

That typically would not prevent it from shifting out of park. It usually will say "HDC system not available."

I had this same problem this week. There was moisture on the circuit board under the center console. A quick clean and reduction of moisture seem to have fixed it.

I had this issue, but mine went away after I cleaned the corrosion off the battery terminals.
