oh..by the way..just looked at the Cleghorn photos....and to me the white D3 looks like it has the articulation of....yep....and independantly suspended soft roader. It takes the full air suspension to SIMULATE live axles. Sorry.

NW, yeah it's me. Don't know about the oz forum...possibly. Wll let you know when I know what ARB are saying, if anything.

Ozscott, go take a drive in the 3. You won't want to get back in your's. As for air bags breaking, hey all things break. Even D2 Airbags !

Ozscott, no question that the coil sprung has little articulation, however, it does not stop it. On two wheels, and even one wheel, it continues forward without pause. Would I like more travel, sure of course. Has it prevented me from accomplishing any path I've yet traveled, nope!

As for being less capable than a stock D2, that is, by all accounts from experts far and wide, a completely inaccurate statement.

As for it's readiness for upgrading, sadly, that is quite true. It's a challenge to make it even better.

Um. No. This dude's truck was one of about 20-25 that were accidently imported into the US about a year ago. This is a 'BASE' model, not an S or an SE or an HSE. The BASE model D3s, sold everywhere else in the world.. is a coil sprung truck. When these trucks hit the shore last year by mistake LRUSA put the word out that they had them.. and they were for sale... I have a friend who got this call and was under the impression he could have one for a price in the low $20ks.. Don't wanna know what this dude paid for his.

I do remember the coil-sprung V6s being listed on the LR USA site though. Does anyone know the actual number imported?

I would like to see the 'expert' evidence that says that a coil sprung, no terrain response, no air bag, no rear locker poverty pack D3 is more capable off road in standard form than a D2 in standard form.....anyone....? I would even settle for some D2 owners who are experienced and who have gone off road for a decent distance with a poverty pack (that being essential to my point) D3 in an unmoded D2 telling me that the D3 is more capable.

One thing is for sure, the D3 struggles in sand...in OZ we love beach fishing and beach camping and frankly next to the D1 or D2 the D3 is a dog on the deep (real deep) soft sand because of 2 things - weight and low profile tyres. You can only change one of things and not by much - legally in OZ you cannot go up (at least in my state) a profile in size, you can only go up one width size - ie 1cm which makes bugger all difference in a 60 odd profile tyre to rolling diameter and the ability to extend the footprint when airing down...horses for courses.

Cheers:rolleyes:

it dosen't matter to me how they compare 'standard' or 'stock' but rather the potential improvements that can be made to get it to where you want to go. Sadely, the "D3" is not easy to mod so you are force to keep with what you get from the factory, where as a slightly modded D2 is as capable as a D3 from factory, but it then starts surpassing the D3 because it has more flex, more meat, ect.

Remember guys that the LR3 is still a brand new vehicle. With time, I think there will be all kinds of mods available. It's just going to take some time. If there is a demand, the mods will be available.

NW,
Any model can have the active rear locking diff.
However I think it has to be fited at build time. I'm not certain.
I am certain that over here in the UK the rear active diff lock is an optional extra for all models including your LR3b at a price of UK?495.00. The centre locking diff is standard so I take it you have one?
I am awaiting confirmation of a 2 inch lift kit from Australia......if it's on the market :)
If it is, I'll be buying the LR3b myself

Rear locking diff and fullsized spare (Heavy Duty Pkg) is available on V6 models. I sold two of them that way. They are hard to find though.

Okay - most of you know I have a weird LR3 for the North American market. My truck is equipped with coil springs instead of the normal air suspension system and Terrain Control.

While simple and very reliable, the fixed ride height was very limiting in what I could do off road. I have finally improved the situation!

I have fitted 40mm taller 37% stiffer springs, for a net 1.6" lift, which ironically brings me exactly up to the same ride height as a normal air suspended LR3 in Off Road mode. Details here:

Kick ass. Let us know if you start breaking CVs or anything. The wife really wants one, but I refuse to own one that cannot be lifted.

What about longer shocks?

It looks like you're going to be topping out over speed bumps.
