So I bought a cheap LR3 off craigslist since I had such good luck with my daily driver.
This one was sold to me as maybe needing an engine. I plan to check compression to see if it really needs an engine, but I haven't yet.
Anyway, it feels like it's got a dead misfire and it won't idle and you have to give it some throttle to get it to start most of the time. I find this a little odd, because on my other LR3, I had a bad coil or two, and the thing would still hold the idle just fine.
It doesn't seem to be storing any codes for a misfire, but I don't have it insure or tagged yet, so I haven't driven it, and I know my other car took a while to store the code.
I tried unhooking the MAF sensor and it didn't help the idle, and it also caused some noticeable black smoke out the exhaust. I also swapped the sensor from my other vehicle.
I've swapped the ignition capacitor, because it was the old type, and I had a new one that I didn't need on my other car. I also swapped 4 suspected good coils on one bank, and it seemed to get a little better, but just for a short while. After I swapped the other 3 coils (I only had 7 "good" ones from my old parts stash) it didn't want to idle again. I even tried a couple of the original coils on that bank to see if something was wrong with one of my good coils, and to make sure that 8th coils wasn't my bad one. (still not getting any misfire codes to help find the cylinder)
Can anyone think of anything else that would cause a rough run and won't idle?
