LR4 Compressor on LR3

Just had the "updated" compressor and software installed on the LR3. However, the LR4 compressor sits lower than the LR3 compressor. Like, a lot lower. The compressor needs to be fitted higher up on the frame so the rock sliders can be put back on. As it sits now the compressor would hit the slider preventing the slider from being bolted into place.

So the question is, does anyone make/sell an adapter/bracket to move the LR4 compressor up on the LR3?

I'm not even sure this pump can be moved up. When I took the photo I took a quick look. Unless the pump is moved or rotated, I'm not sure it would go up without the dryer hitting the body. I'll take a better look later.

So a while back I thought I should get a spare relay for the air compressor. I was reading horror stories where folks were out-and-about and the relay died and sent the truck to the bump stops because the compressor would not run. So I wanted a spare relay to keep in the glove box just in case.

So while at Conclave I had Lucky 8 bring me one down.

So school me.

I'm going to assume that a LR4 compressor is better than a LR3's and that's why you changed it out. How much better is it?

We have already changed out the compressor once on my wife's truck and I'm sure it won't be the last time.

I notice a weird issue when ever I tow the boat, when I go to disconnect the trailer the pump and suspension make a lot of excessive noise and movement. Not sure if this is pump related or ecu related.

Thanks

The part has just superseded. Land Rover went with a new manufacturer for compressors (AMK) which replaces the old style (Hitachi) compressor. It is quieter and has a better mounting system. I don't think I've seen one fail yet, but I might be wrong about that.

Tactical 4x4 makes a 3/16" steel bracket for the new AMK pump, designed to lift it up just enough to clear their own sliders (side-by-side comparison with the stock aluminum bracket included with the AMK retrofit kit and standard issue on MY2012s and newer LR4s):

When mounted under the car, you can see the fairly significant clearance difference compared to the chunkier stock bracket setup. Old:

Coupled with the "box" welded on their driver's side under the compressor, that bracket yields enough extra clearance to barely (maybe by couple of mm) allow the sliders to be bolted up while avoiding vibrations and noise from contact. Unfortunately I heard from owners of Rover Specialty sliders - similar desgn as the Tactical - that this bracket helped, but not quite enough to clear their design (don't know which ones you have on your LR3.) Worth a shot though, as the bracket is probably inexpensive from the Tactical guys. Even with their sliders, the lower acoustic cover has got to go, but the AMK unit is so much quieter than the Hitachi one, you can barely hear it running anyway after the sliders are installed - as long as there is no contact between bracket and slider. Otherwise, it makes quite a racket.

My understanding is that a new compressor relay comes included with the AMK retrofit kit along with required fittings, bracket and acoustic cover. The only thing needed after replacement is a software update to the EAS control module, since the operating strategy of the two compressors is different.

 Crap, sorry about the giant photos, I assumed (obviously incorrectly) that they would automatically be resized when linked from my Dropbox account.
