My younger brother just got his first car and its an '89 RRC! We have a few mods on the way but the biggest thing we need to get done is an LT230 swap. My dad has had a "diff. lock" trasfercase that came off an '04 Disco II. Any idea if this is an LT230? will it fit on my brothers RRC?

Yes it will bolt on. You will need the spud shaft from the trans to transfer case from a later lt230/ZF auto too.
You will also need brand new driveshafts.

Well - sure used is fine.... I really meant new as in "new to the truck" but it came out more like new new new new to the world. 
You need a D1 front shaft, t case mount and linkage. You only need the output shaft if the LT is out of a 96 -> truck with the crossdrilled input gear.

You need a D2 front shaft since the T-case is from a D2. (unless the output is the same as a D1?)

Good to know that I needed the lt230 crossmember! It is a SWB, so I guess the rear shaft will work. As far as the shifter linkage goes, the cable that is on the LT230 is trash. Do I have to replace it with another cable or can I get a shifter out of a DI?
the speed sensor was run off of the speedo cable via a box mounted to the frame on RRCs, so he should be able to remove the electronic speedo adapter from the D2 LT230 and put the speedo cable and securing bracket in. But I'm not entirely 100% on this so nwo I'm going to have to take a look when i get to work.

OP, there might be a plug or covering on the T-case where it goes., I cant remember 100% though. but i know if people putting d2 cases in d1 and RRC, just dont know about the older ones.

I just looked at an 03 D2 LT230 and there is NO speedo output there so there is no way to hook up a RRC speedometer to it. So we can both agree that I was initially wrong.:victory:
Doh.... I didn't even think of the speedometer gear. Ok well I guess Im SOL on the '04 transfercase. What would be the best donnor vechical, Pre 96 Disco?
