Thanks to the Dweb thread about K&Ns that sent me to BOB is the Oil Guy ? site. His little experiment with Gear Oil shocked me!!!!! When they added some Lucas in that experiment, it did well on the initial start (climbing), but once the gears were moving faster, heat rising, the air trapped in that oil was really something to see. It absolutely is counter to conventional thinking and Lucas marketing! Oh well, counter to my conventional thinking anyways since I know little about the physical and chemical properties of lubricants.

I know others that must be far more knowledgeable on this topic than I? I ask you this; is that the BS flag or what? Shit, I dumped Lucas in my T-case (yea I use M1 Full Syn 80/90) thinking that was goodness, yet Bob?s little experiment counters that benefit and illustrates negative outcomes. YIKES!
Not sure if this is a little slanted marketing campaign like (negative against Lucas, oh and btw, here is Scheafers gear oil, best stuff going).

here is the URL = http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm

Geez, so many I know use Lucas all over there trucks? Next thing you know we will be hearing about Nitrogen filled tires causes your hair to fall out!

My experience with Lucas Oil has not been great. I put some (50/50 mix) into the t-case of my other vehicle... that is gear driven also. I have a sight tube so I can check the level easily. Through the sight tube it was easy to see the foaming that was happening. The temperature of the case also seemed to run a little higher than usual. I drained the Lucas treated oil out and put regular gear oil back in, and every thing returned to normal. The difference was every bit as dramatic as the write up in the above thread.

I also tried it in my motor on the DII, and I am not convinced it did anything good there either. Back to the 5W-40 Mobile 1.

Some people seem to love the stuff. YMMV.

Don't want to be nitpicky here, but BobTheOilGuy's spelling or technical terms (adheasion, ariation, etc.) doesn't add to his credibility.

I haven't done a search, but has anyone used royal purple?

I've also been told that using a synthetic on a high-mileage motor will cuase it to leak oil like crazy, any truth to that?

This Bob guy is sponsored by Schaeffer oils so it seems like he would be trying to promote their product and his results seem to prove this by not using the Schaeffer's oil in both groups. He has a control group but it is different from the additive test group and therefore his experiment is a very large load of BULL. He also tested the Lucas after air entrainment had already occurred so who's to say that the existence of air prior to addition doesn't have ill effects. I read his comment "Schaeffer's has climbing agent already added" therefore he didn't want to add Lucas to it. All of this leads me to believe that this guy and his whole site is one big promo for his sponsors.

Don't trust everything you read.

That is a good point BTW (Penz & Delo were already well aerated) and I will hit his board to see what he replies. Someone else posed the question of adding Lucas to the control-side (Schaefer?s) and of course his response was ?why ruin a good oil??

Another funny-point or connection besides the obvious Schaefers bias, is the entanglement with Auto-RX. Maybe I missed it, but I think these sites must support each other because of the cross-referencing going-on.

I guess regardless of his flaws in his experiment discipline, this site made a good point relative to thickness, uhhh (whatever the correct term is) and the issue of aeration.

I love to read that crap and I have visions of Bob or whoever it is, sitting at his PC all day and night trying to keep these threads going as he impersonates different users with their appealing stories. It has got to be difficult to organize your own community of fans and keep track of who he is impersonating at any given time.

Kinda like radio talk show host, Phil Hendry.
