Lug Nut Cap

I've never had this problem with my disco but we're toying with a '98 DI and whoever worked on the truck before rounded off 3 lug nut caps on one wheel. What's the easiest way of trying to remove them off the lug nut while they are still on the wheel? Putting the impact on them just makes the cap spin around the top of the lug nut. Any suggestions please.

The center of the lug nut (under the shiny silver cap) is hollow so this is what I did. Drove an old Phillips headed screwdriver into it and wallowed it all around. Then I was able to get a grip on the pieces with needle nose pliers and pull it off bit by bit or sometimes the whole thing cap came right off.
