Yeah I haven't thought about that in the last few days.

So I got everything back and itunes works fine but my aperture won't load. I started it up holding command/option and tried to do the consistency check but it wouldn't finish. I guess it's back into the apple store. I've looked through a ton of threads on other forums and can't figure it out. I even moved out the folders they suggested but it still wouldn't load up the library. At least the wedding RAW's are in another spot.

Outstanding answer!
Why do you have to be an ass? You are in the tech field for a living and redundancy is something you do not even think twice about. Most people do not think about this. Sounds like Steve did not have this data anywhere else but that external drive. So yes, he's screwed when the hard drive fails and you Mr Expert knows that it's not if but when a drive fails... So yea, it's obvious to you, but maybe not to someone else.

Captain Obvious! That is some funny shit right there. Oh, please tell me that is a real guy's name & rank.
I never understood why the Army & Marines had the rank of Captain. That seems like the Navy having the rating of Tank Commander or Cavalry Scout.

Chris, I apologize for the ass comment. I did deserve the Captain Obvious. I totally missed the part where you recommended the RAID setup.

So, instead of editing my post, I will just man-up and say I'm an idiot.

Sorry again.

This may or may not help, but Apple's "pro" apps (like Aperture) don't like to be moved from one system to another without first uninstalling on the old system (though I don't know why that would be a problem for just a HD replacement). If I understand you correctly, Aperture will run, but not open your 'managed' library? When I used Migration Assistant to move from an MB to MBP I had to uninstall Aperture from the old MB before it would allow me to run Aperture on the new system. Licensing deconfliction.

Have you tried going into Aperture's Preference pane and searching, then linking to your old library, or making sure the tech guys didn't make an extra copy, move the old library around, etc?

And here's a big thumbs up to G-Drive externals. I've had several for a few years with zero problems. Even took them to OIF/OEF and back. The company was recently bought out by Samsung(or another big name?) but I don't know how much, if at all, that will affect their quality.

Last bit. Consider a bootable clone you can store elsewhere such as the office. I have multiple backups at home but also keep a boot clone at work which I bring home and re-make about once a month. Made the Migration really easy too.
