I would have been surprised if she ate a bird (knowing your reputation).

I just thought to ask when I saw her bit of grey. My Chessie has about the same amount of grey, but she is 9.5. I was going to crap my pants if Madeline was that old, since she looks to be in such fine shape.

Keep up the good work. Looks like you both enjoy it quite a lot.

This one's not as much of a "doggy" pic, but I love it and all the pics are nice.

I have to really watch the Chessie in cactus and thorns. The Pointer is not an issue, he will limp, but the Chessie could have an entire cactus attached to her paw and you'd never know. Tough bitch.

Cheers, Brian

A retrospective of the fall season:

enjoy.

Awsome Pictures

educate me please-----

is that an inland freshwater swamp/Tidal waterway?? your pictures go from the swamp flats to the hills.I know its photos of the season.

is that a hunting preserve where you book a blind in advance or did you build your own bring your own box or boat.
im curious as here in NYS we are no longer allowed to build a permanent blind on our rivers or coastal waterways .portable or afloat only with a means of taking it with you when you go.

here its become easier to book a blind on private coastal land or just use our duck boat .
Although for some reason people are begining to buy the land under the water so the High tide mark is no longer a boundry for Hunters vs Treehuggers.

The waterfowling pics are from a private club that I belong to. The club is located in in California's Imperial Valley and consists of a very large flooded farm field with dikes running diagonally across the water. Set into the dikes are alternating box blinds like you see in the pic. Some vegetation is allowed to grow in certain corners of the club where in others it's just water. The water ranges from 12" to 3' deep. There are 14 blinds but only 10 are sold. The members only hunt the club wednesdays and sundays and rotate through the blinds each week.

To be honest, I wish that waterfowling wasn't a pay-to-play deal for me. Not as much because of the money, but moreso because I've always had success simply being persistent and finding the good public land to hunt even when it was a little farther away. But it seems that in my area if you want to hunt ducks or geese you are going to be paying to be on the land to do it.

But that said the club isn't ridiculously expensive and it is well managed for birds. I'm good friends with most of the other people in the club so the after-action breakfast makes it a social engagment as well. I guess I just always feel to some extent like it isn't the real deal. I'm not sure if it's the contrived body of water, or paying to be there or simply the lack of any real duck hunting weather, but even when I enjoy it, I feel as if I'm out "shooting" rather than "hunting".

Very cool JSQ
If you build it they will come.(flood a field)
i use to put one decoy in my pool every season and i always had ducks in the pool.
im currently clearing a cornfield upstate NY to get the geese in.

I grew up with staged shoots, ducks, pheasants and enjoyed every minute of it.
i pay 450 to sit in a blind in a Gun club for a 2500 bird (ducks)shoot.
we rotate from blind to blind so everyone gets a fair shot.
a shoot is a shoot vs a hunt is a hunt you know this, overall its two different things but IMO both mean a day afield with friends food dogs and lots of ammo.

Regardless you and your Companion Shot the game, retreived ,cleaned, and best of all cooked something you caught yourself.
what more can you ask for.
im doing our traditional New Years Day Duck Hunt on Monday.
Last year after a fine duck boat breakfast of Venison Sauseage and eggs a flt of geese flew over ,of four of us only two could locate our guns.
during breakfast a huge wave rocked our boat,we didnt realize two guns went over board.we found them by walking around in the mud.
was alot of fun.
sorry to ramble.

Cheers JSQ
Happy and Safe New Year to you and yours.
Peace
Jim
