Maggiolina questions.

Anyone (other than Steve Young) have a Maggiolina roof-top tent? How do you have it mounted on the car? Experiences? Seems like Autohome recomends only two cross bars to fit the tent topside, but it would seem to me that three would be the way to go. I'm leaning toward the Maggiolina Grand Tour in a medium size supported by three Yakima bars. Thoughts?

My family needs have changed quite a bit since I bought the car 5 years ago, and I've spent some time this year de-emphasizing the off-road mods and working more toward a Westfalia-ish Land Rover.

Please keep the responses to Maggiolina stuff only. I've got no interest in those green boy-scout looking floppy Hannibal things or similar.

Thanks everyone...you may now return to mindlessly fighting about the election.:patriot: ;)

Nothing? zero? Not even a quip about chicken-coop rack flooring or a knock on DAP? Do I need to start a thread about the big stick I pulled out from under my truck just to get some attention around here?!:banghead:

I think it was birch.

;) ;)

How you got yours on the roof...what rack?...assuming you love your Maggiolina and not your own private Steve Young!:D

i think you misunderstood. i love my flooring. cheap, light, and durable.

sorry, but my version of a RTT is a tent cot strapped down to my rack. it's an SD rack if that helps anything else...

For what it's worth, I don't have a Maggiolina yet, but I have seen them and researched them quite a bit. They say that two crossbars is OK - I was considering four (to evenly distribute the weight across more of the gutter).

Also, IIRC, Yakima bars are round? Something seems wrong with placing all that fiberglass on round bars - the load will only be distributed across the top-dead-center of each bar. It just seems sturdier to put them on Thule or other flat-surfaced bars and distribute the weight across an inch and a half or so, less stress on the fiberglass.
