Quality assurance really does enter every aspect of our lives. If you've read Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, you know that the book was really about quality control/assurance and snap-rings.
Today, I was working on trying to get a headjob out. I finally got the heads back from the machine shop, organized my schedule so I had a window to put it together. I get to the last bolt to be installed and it won't go into the hole! I look in and can see something obstructing the bolt hole.
As I "am" a professional, I couldn't just bash the bolt through what appeared to be a piece of gasket and removed the head. Sure enough, during install, I had wrinkled one of the pieces of sheetmetal that went around the bolt hole. ARGH! At least I had another!
So, I recognize when this happened as I had some difficulty engaging the dowel pins... What to do?
Was it Frank Zappa that said necessity was the mother? Anyway, I looked on the floor of the bay and true to form, there were head bolts all over! I grabbed a long one and headed for the die grinder. Wow, that took a lot longer than I thought, ground down a cut-off wheel and made the compressor run (and Baby Jesus cried too!). I cleaned up my new tool and DAMN! It's too freaking long!
Back to the floor. I grabbed a short headbolt and went to the bandsaw this time! Wow, that cut faster!
Anyway, enough of my drivel, some pics!
